Description

1 7. 4 92 D. RABINOVITCH DRYING FORM FOR HOSIERY Filed March 192s l// /////4/////// III Patented Jan. 11, 1927.
an ll.
UbllTE S res e Fries.
DRYING: FORM FOR HOSIEBY.
Application filed March 1. 1925. Serial No. 15,631.
The object of this invention is to provide a novel drying form for hosiery having certain novel and advantageous features of construction as hereinafter fully described.
In the attached drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a form made in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22, Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the form may comprise a flat metal or other body 1 so shaped as to conform to the outline of the human leg. This form has, extending longitudinally thereof adjacent the rear edge, a series of narrow slots 2, the portions of the form intermediate the ends of adjacent slots being grooved on both sides in alignment with the slots, as shown at 3 in Fig. 3. At the bottom twin grooves a, on opposite sides of the form, extend from the rear edge of the form at a point near the ankle inwardly on a curved line to the bottom of the lowermost slot 2.
In addition to the slots 2, the form is perforated by holes 5, the number of which is as great as consistent with strength in the form. The form also comprises at or about the ankle portion a slot 6 whose function will be described hereinafter, as also will be the function of a second slot 7 extending longitudinally of the foot near the tip of the toe.
In using this form, a stocking is pulled thereover in the usual manner. The slots 6 and 7 provide for a proper centering of the foot of the stocking, in that the junctures of the toe and foot reinforcements and the foot and heel reinforcements may be located by the operator in the slots 7 and 6 respectively. The operator then adjusts the seam at the back of the stocking so that it lies Within the grooves 3 and 4E and the slots 2 on either side of the form, the stockings of any single pair being so boarded that the respective seams lie on opposite sides of the form.
Considerable advantage is obtained in forming the guide channel for the seam at the back of the frame in the form of a slot 5 extending completely through the latter. Not only is such a guide effective on both sides of the form for boarding right and left stockings indiscriminately, but also it facilitates adjustment of the seam, and it is possible to see the seam at one side of the frame from the opposite side, thereby preeluding error in the adjustment. The slots, together with perforations 5, have an additional advantage, in that they materially assist the drying operations by providing circulation of the heating air through the stocking as well as over its surface.
The embodiment herein described is obviously capable of modification without departing from the essential features of the invention, as for example forming one continuous seam slot instead of the series of smaller slots shown.
I claim: 76*
1. A stocking drying form comprising a flat body taking substantially the outline of the human leg, and a slot extending longitudinally at the back of the form adjacent the rear edge and completely through said 7 form body.
2. A stocking drying form comprising a flat body taking substantially the outline of the human leg, said body having a slotted opening extending down the back adjacent 80 the rear edge and terminating at a point near the ankle, with a groove in the body consti tuting a continuation of the slot and extending from the lower end of the latter to the rear edge of the form.
DAVID RABINOVITCH.
