This invention relates to loading machines, such as may be used for gathering loose materials and loading the same on conveyances for removal, and to machines oi' similar character.
@ne et the objects of this invention is to provide a powei` operated machine by which a load of material, such as earth, gravel and the like, may be gathered and elevated for transportation or for depositing in al conveyance for transportation. Y
Another object of this invention is to provide a machine by means of which suoli a load may be elevated to a suiiicient height to be deposited in a conveyance having an elevated body.
Another object ot this invention is to provide suoli a device by which the loan mayV be not only lifted, but swung to either side Jr'or depositing in a conveyance.
Another object ot this invention is o provide a machine by which these various operations maybe carried out and which may be driven and operated by a single operator.
Another object of this invention is to provide such a device which may be applied to a power vehicle of standard construction.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, l designates a. power propelled frame provided 'with traction wheels 2 and steering wheels 3. This may take the form of an ordinary tractor ot' any suitable design. The embodiment illustrated in the drawings is shown as applied to a. tractor of what is known as the Fordson type.
Mounted on the front of the trame 1 is a suit-able bracket 4 upon which is mounted an upright column 5 suitably braced lby means of braces 6 so as to maintain the same in upright position. section 7 is pro I*ided at its upper end with a horizontally extending boom 8 which may be elevated by elevating the section 7 and which may be swung laterally by rotating the section 7. The column 5 7 as well as the boom 8 may be formed of hollow pipe and the boom has suspended therefrom by means of cables 9 and 10, a bucket or shovel 11.
Mounted on a bracket 12 fixed within the -lower end ot' the section 5 is an upright hollow column or post 13 carrying at its top a flange 14 fitting within the section 7 and adapted to act as a guide therefor. The cables 9 and 10 each have one end anchored to the boom 8 and pass downwardly over a pair of sheaves 15 on the shovel 11, then upwardly to the boom 8 passing through openings in the pipe to the interior thereof, then over a pair of sheaves 16 mounted in the boom 8 to a pair of sheaves 17, only one ot which is shown, to the interior of the column 5 7. lithin the columns the cables pass downwardly around a pair of sheaves 18 fixed within the'lower end of the section 7, thence upwardly and around a pair of sheaves 19 mounted on the flange 14, thence downwardly through the interior of the post 18 and around a pair of sheaves 20 to the outside ot the column 5. @nly one of each of the sheaves 18, 19 and 2() is shown in the drawings so as to avoid confusion. The drum 24 is connected by means ot a suitable clutch and brake device 25 o t' any well known construction to a worm gear driven by a. shaft 27 operated by the power plant of thev'ehicle in any well known` inanner. The 'clutch and brake device 25 may las epratd by means of a suitable central 'of the cables acting through the sheaves lever so that as soon a.; the clutch connvcts the drum tor driving engagement, the brake is released and vice versa.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
