This invention relates to fifth wheels,- and more especially to aldevice of this character adapted for use with toy/wagons, andi-laas for one of its objects to]r rovidea lfifth wheel which will be simple in construction ecm-A paratively inexpensive to manufacture,and more efficient inuse than those which have Fifth wheels' as now ordinarily constructed necessitate theupper and lower holsters of the wagon being-cut-A out or recessed to accommodate the upper and lower members of the fifth Wheel construction. Such cutting or recessing materially decreases the strength of the holsters, as well as increases the time and cost involved in the manufacture of such wagons.

lt is therefore an important object of the present invention to provide a fifth wheel which mayV be quickly and efliciently stamped from Sheet metal, and which will not necessitate the cutting of the holsters, and on the other hand will serve to reinforce and strengthen the same, thereby preventing` splitting of the said holsters under extraordinary strains.

lilith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

'l ie said extensions 10 are further provided with the holes or apertures 11, through which suitable fastening means, such as screws-12, may be introduced for the purpose of securing the fifth wheel member to the bolster. The said disc 8 is further provided with a central aperture or hole 13 to accommodate a king holt 14, which retains the parts in their assembled positions in the well known manner.

The lower fifth wheel member, as is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 4, comprises a companion plate or disc 15, of substantially the same shape and dimensions as the upper member 8, which is likewise provided with a depression 16 and with the diametrically opposed extensions 17, provided with the angularly bent ears 18, adapted to engage the sides of the lower bolster 6, as will be readily.

As will be clear from Fig. 1, the parts are assembled so as to bring therib 9 of the upper member 8 in engagement with the depression 16 of the lower member, thereby forming an inexpensive and efficient hearing which prevents all lateral movement of the two holsters relative to one another. Furthermore, owing to the peculiar construction of the fifth wheel members, it is entirely unv necessary to cut or recess the holsters' of the wagon to accommodate either of the fifth wheel members, whereby their strength is in nowise impaired or lessened. In fact,vby employing the present construction of fifth may vary the details of construction as well as the arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention, and therefore it is not wished to be limited to the 'above disclosure except as may be required by the accompanying claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A fifth wheel construction for toy wagons, comprising a pair of companion stamped sheet metal disc members, one provided with a V-shaped annular groove on its upper face and the other with a V-shaped annular rib on its lower face engaging said groove, each of said disc members being' pro-4 vided with a pair of diametrically opposed vertically spaced extensions having apertures to accommodate fastening means, said extensions being adapted to engage the faces of the bolster-s, and being provided with angularly disposed ears adapted to engage and reinforce the sides of said holsters.

2. ln a toy wagon having an axle,'a pair of superposed relatively movable bolsters, and a king bolt pivotally securing said bolsters together, the combination therewith of a fth wheel interposed between said bolsters, comprising a pair of companion stamped sheet metal disc members, one provided with a V-shaped annular groove on its upper face and the other with a V-shaped annular rib on its lower face engaging said groove, each of said members being provided with a pair of diametrically opposed verti cally spaced extensions engaging and secured to the faces of said bolsters, and having angularly disposed ears engaging and supporting the sides thereof, said members permitting of unlimited horizontal pivotal movement of the lower bolster.
