IMPROVEMENT IN PRUNING IMPLEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,381, dated March 30, 1875 application filed July 13, 1874.
OAsE B.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES BATHURT CANNON, of Keokuk, Lee county, Iowa, have invented a Pruning Implement, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists in a novel construction of the handle and cutting-parts of a pruning implement. It is made substantially as hereinafter more fully described and set forth, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure I is a View of my improved pruning implement, a portion broken away to show inside parts; and Fig. II is a cross-section of the same.
The handle A is made of wood or other material, of suitable length to reach into tops of in a groove on this side, bears a cutter-blade, L, to work down against and between these two parts M, and cut the smaller branches, the parts on the two sides holding the branches so as not to spring the cutter to one side and break it. The part K extends down in the handle to the bottom, and at a distance of two or three feet there are shield-rings E around the handle, attached to the part K, so that the hand may be placed on this ring to move the cutter, While the handle is held by the other hand between the rings, either ring being used, as the distance of the object requires. The parts K H run in grooves made wide at the back; and these parts are formed to fit so as to be held in securely.
I claim- 1. The combination,in an improved pruningtool, of the double grooved and slotted handle A, the saw and cutting operating shafts H K, and the sleeve-rings E, all made, arranged, and operating substantially as set forth.
2. The pruning-tool, with a number of sleeverings, E, fixed at intervals on the handle for use in operating the tool at different distances without adjustment, as set forth.
CHARLES BATHURT GANN ON.
