My present invention relates to improvements in baby jumpers or childrens supports resiliently held for vertical vibration and capable of holding` and supporting a child in upright sitting position or of holding the child with its feet touching the floor.
The invention involves the use of a body harness which relieves the childs feet of its weight `but permits them to touch the :[ioor. The device is especially designed to support the childs back and also afford a comfortable seat for supporting the childs weight and at the same time afford the required freedom of movement yof the child without restrictions in the performance of its usual functions.
Means are provided for bracing the suspending straps to hold them in correct position to properly .support the harness or jumper, and the bracing member may readily be detached when required for compact storage arrangements. By the utilization of the device of my invention the parts may quickly and conveniently be assembled and adjusted for use to provide a comfortable device of this character and with equal facility the parts may be unfastened and dismantled when required.
The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts as will hereinafter be more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention wherein the parts are combined and arranged according to the best mode I have thus far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.
Figure l is a perspective view of the device as a whole, suspended in proper position and adapted for use.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the body of the harness spread out in flattened position for convenience of illustration. j
Figure 3 is a detail at one corner of the rectangular brace for the suspending straps illustrating the manner of connecting the brace with the straps.
Figure l is an enlarged transverse sectional view at line ll--t of Figure 2 showing the seat portion of the harness.
In carrying out my invention I preferably utilize a single-piece body portion l of canvas or other suitable material, having ends 2 and 3 and properly fashioned as to shape to insure a comfortable body vharness when the ends 2 and 3 are overlapped at the back to encase the childls body for supporting its hips and back.
A suitable number of short straps 4, here shown as two are secured to the end 2, and complementary buckles 5 are attached to the end 3 by means of which the body portion Smay be adjusted and 4fastened together as in Figure l.
The body portion l is fashioned with an angular tubular extension 6 and reinforced by means lof interior padding material as 7 which material extends between the two transverse rows of stitches 8 in the .extension and affords a padded or cushioned, reinforcedv seat for the child to straddle.
The seat is detachably 'fastened to the respective ends 2 and 3 of the harness-body by means of a triangular shaped shield 9 formed integral with the seat and provided at its extreme edge with a number of hooks 10.
The hooks are designed for coupling' to selected eyelets 11 on the reinforcing tapes l2 and 13 of the respective ends 2 and 3 of the body harness. By means of the body straps 4 and their buckles the body of the jumper may be adjusted to proper size and position and secured about the body of the child, and by means of the coupling hooks and eyes the seat portion of the jumper may be properly adjusted and fastened to the two ends of the harness body in correct and comfortable position.
Four suspending straps 111-, 15, 16 and 17 are preferably fashioned integral with the body-harness of the jumper and spaced at uniformly correct distances apart to properly suspend the harness body.
Each of thc suspending straps has a detachable loop-strap 18 with its lower end permanently secured to the suspending strap and its upper end is provided with a detachable fastening device 19. Jlfhese loop straps are provided for the support of a rectangular brace indicated as a whole by the numeral 2OA and they are designed to encase or loop over the cornersV of the brace in order thatv when their upper ends are attached to the suspending straps the brace may be held in horizontal position,
The brace holds the four suspending strapsinv spaced relation and as shown in Figure 3 it is preferably made up of separable bars 21 each having a dovetail mortise 22 and a complementary tenon 23 at opposite ends. The bars are connected together by means of the mortise and tenon joint and each jo-int is secured by means of a screw 24. rhe screws are provided With projecting heads 25 and each suspending strap has an eyelet 26 to slip over a screw head. Thus by means of the screw heads and eyelets and the loop-straps 18 the brace is firmly held by the suspending straps to maintain the latter in proper position.
At their' upper free ends the suspending straps are passed through a suspending ring 27 supported from a suspending spring 25, which is in turn suspended from an eyebolt 29 that is anchored to a suitable overhead support.
By means of the buckles 30 the ends of the straps may be uniformly adjusted Witn relation to the ring to suspend the body harness in correct position. It Will be apparent that the child is to be seated With his legs straddling the padded seat and protruding through the side openings afforded by the harness and the body of the harness tion'vvhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- In a baby j uniper, a harness body comprising a main body portion having overlapping ends, attaching straps and buckles therefor respectively carried by the overlapping ends, a seat extension formed integral With said body and extending from one edge thereof intermediate the ends, eyelet carrying reinforcing strips disposed on the overlapping ends of said body, an attaching shield 'formed on the free end of said seat extension, and hooks on said shield for engagement with the eyelets of said reinforcing strips when the body ends are in overlapped relation, for covering a portion of the overlap to position the seat extension.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
