rl`his invention refers to a device carried by a rope and adapted to be attached thereto or to a rope supported device, and while the invention may be variously applied, it is particularly designed for use in a rope-supported device, suc-h as used in a'hay carrier. Such a hay carrier is disclosed in the prior patent to Gustav A. Olson, No. 80 6,829, granted December 12, 1905, in which a sling pulley is shown supported on the end ci a rope.
It is an object of this invention to provide a novel form of rope supported means having a sling pulley supporting device carried thereby.
lt is a further object of the invention to provide a rope supported and clamping means comprising separable members into one of which the rope enters centrally and has .its separate strands clamped against the same by the other member,
lt is more specifically an object oit the invention to provide a rope supported means comprising a shell into which the rope centrally enters, said shell having means therein with a plurality'oi apertures through which the separated strands of the rope pass, a second member being provided adapted to clamp said strands and having means for dra-wing it and holding it into such clamping relation.

Referring to the drawings, a ropelO is shown, such as may be used with a hay carrier, such as illustrated in the prior patent, supra. rlhe rope 10 Vadjacent its end, passes centrally into the top of a shell or member 11 which is illustrated as of substantially cylindrical form and which has a flange or web 11 intermediate its ends and on its interior having therein or forining with the wall oi said shell a plurality ot vertically extending openings 1 1". rl`he wall of the shell 11 is cut away to form a plurality of circumerentially extending notches or slots 11C and the portionsoil said wall between said slots are tapered somewhat toward their lower end. The liange or web lliL has a central aperture 11d eX- tending therethrough, of angular shape in cross section, illustrated as square. Adapted to co-operate with the member 11 is a cap member 12 illustrated as substantially triangular in form with rounded corners and'having a web or flange '12a at one end, which end is disposed downwardlyv in normal operation and has a central aperture 121. The member 12 has tangs or arms 12c projecting from the corners thereof which are tapered somewhat in thickness toward Atheir outer encs. A headed and nutted bolt 1?) extends through the apertureselld and 12" and has its nut below member 12. The bolt 13 is illustrated as square in cross section adjacent its head, which square portion is received in the aperture 11d and kept from turning therein. The head 13 of bolt 13, as shown in the dotted lines in Fig. 3, is substantially triangular inform with rounded corners so that the head does not obstruct the apertures 11b. A
The rope 10 extends centrally into the upper part of member 11 above flange 111 and has its strands separated to Vpass respectively through the openings lljb. Below flange 11a, each strand 10Vis carried laterally across ksaid ilan'gel and out through the slot 1lC adjacent the opening 11"L through which it passes, as shown in Fig. 3. The bolt 13 is placed in position before the rope is disposed -in member 1l, as above described. `When 'the strands have been disposed, as above set forth, ythe member 12 llU is placed on the bolt 13, said bolt passed through aperture 12b and the nut applied to said bolt and turned. rlhe member 12 is thus drawn Vup toward the member 11. The tangs or prongs 12C, respectively, enter the slots 11C. Owing to the taper at the bottom of member 11, the member 12 can enter partly therein. l,Vhen said member 12 is drawn up tightly into position, the strands 10L are tightly clamped between the web 1.2iL and the flange 11a. The strands 10a are additionally clamped between the ends of the prongs 12C and the bottom of notches 11, the parts assuming the position shown in Fig. 2. The device thus has the inner kclamping means including the web 11 and the outer clamping means including the prongs 12C. `When member 12 has been tightened as much as possible against the strands of the rope, said strands are cut ofi' with a sharp knife flush with the outer wall of member 11. The prongs 12c entering the notches 11c prevent any rotative movement of cap 12 relative to shell 9.
The members 11 and 12 now being firmly clamped on and supported by rope 10, th-e rope can be drawn upwardly through a sleeve member 14. The member 14 has an upper' smaller portion 14a and a lower larger portion 14D, thus forming a shoulder lll therebetween. The member 11 has a fiat top surface which engages with shoulder 14C so that sleeve 14e is swivelly carried on the member 11. The sleeve 14 is forked at its lower end and adapted to'receive a headed andnutted bolt l5 which carries a yoke 1G with which the sides of a sling pulley member are adapted to co-operate and be connected, as illustrated in the prior patent, supra. The sleeve 14e swivels freely on the member 11 and it may be mentioned that said sleeve has spaced flanges 14dV extending circumferentially thereabout provided for certain functions in the operation'of a loc ring device forming part of the hay carrier.
From the above description it is seen that applicant has provided a novel, simple and efficient rope supported and clamping means or rope attachment and one on which the sleeve which supports the sling pulley can lreadily turn. The rope is very effectively clamped and there is no chance of the rope pulling out of the members 11 and 12. The device is extremely simple and a great improvement over` the prior art. The device has been amplv demonstrated in actual practice and found to be very successful and efficient.
lt will, of course, be` understood that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of t-he parts without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which, generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth, in the novel parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.
lhat is claimed is:
1. A rope supported means having in combination, `a shell having an interior flange and openings therethrough for respectively receiving the strands of a rope, a cap co-operating with said shell adapted to clamp said strands against said flange and having means interfitring with said shell to prevent rotation relative thereto, said shell and cap having alining central apertures and a clamping bolt passing through said apertures for drawing and holding said Shell and cap together.
2. A rope supported means having in comn bination, a shell having interior means against which the strands of a rope are adapted to be clamped, and having spaced notches disposed outward of said means through which said strands pass, a memberl co-operating with said shell to clamp said strands against said means and also having means adapted to enter said notches to clamp said strands therein and prevent relative rotation of said shell and cap.
3. A rope supported device having in combination, a shell adapted to centrally re ceive a rope, a member co-operating therewith said shell and member each having interior means adapted to clamp the strands of said rope and interfitting means also adapted to clamp said strands.

A rope supported device having in combination, a shell adapted centrally to receive a rope, a member co-operat-ing therewith, said shell and member each having interior means adapted to clamp the strands of said rope and havin@ spaced interfitting means disposed outwardly of said first mentioned means also adapted to clamp said strands.
5. A rope supported device having in combination, a shell adapted centrally to receive a rope and having an interior iiange and openings therethrough for respectively receiving the strands of said rope, a cap cooperating with said shell adapted to clamp said strands against said flange and having mea-ns inter-fitting with said shell also clamping said strands, said flange having means for receiving and preventing rotation of a bolt and said cap having a central aperture and a bolt passing through said flange and aperture for drawing and holding said shell and cap together.
6. A rope supported carrier comprising a cylindrical shell into which a rope centrally passes, means for clamping said rope in said shell, said shell having aflat top surface about said rope and housing sleeve loosely surrounding said rope and shell have ing an internal shoulder seated and supported on said top surface and adapted to swivel thereon.
7. A rope supported and clamping means lOt) having in combination, a shell having openings to receive the separated strands of a rope and spaced outer and inner means against which said Strands are clamped, a cap copper-ating with said shell to clamp said strands against both means, and means for drawing and holding said shell and cap together.
8. A rope supporting and clamping device having in combination, a substantially cylindrical shell into which the rope centrally passes having a ange with circumferentially spaced passages through which the strands of the rope are adapted to pass, said shell having circumterentially spaced slots through which said strands project radially below said iange, a cap fitting in said shell below said ange adapted to engage and clamp said strands against said flange and having projections adapted to enter said slots also clamping said strands and prevent-ing relative rotative movement of said shell and cap, and means for drawing and holding said cap and shell together.
9. A rope supported device having in combination, a member adapted centrally to receive a rope, a member co-operating therewith through which the rope` also centrally passes, said members having means adapted to clamp the separated strands of said rope and also having additional interit-ting means adapted to clamp said strands. i

A rope supporting and` clamping means having in combination, a shell having a cylindrical wall and a transverse web e therein, said web being' spaced from said wall to form a plurality of spaced openings through which separated strands of a. rope pass, said wall having notches form-ed there in through which said strands also pass and a member co-operating with said shell and adapted to be secured thereto for clamping said stra-nds against said web and in said notches.
ll. The structure set forth in claim l0 said member being disposed within said wall and having projections thereon fitting in said recesses and clamping said strands therein.
