UNITED STATES ATET IMPROVEMENT lN GANG-FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,284, dated March 23, 1875; application filed December 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN S. SGHEU- MACK, of the city and county of Victoria and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Gang-Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a plan View; Fig. 2, a longitudin al sectional elevation.
The invention relates to gang-plows for preparing land for crops, cultivating the same, or for putting in seed-grain.
The means which constitute my improvement will first be fully described in connection with all that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a long beam, on each side of which is secured at a suitable interval two plow-standards, B, while a third is secured to the outside of a short beam, A, the standard, beam A, spacing-block B, and beam A being secured by the long bolt 0, while the two beams are also bolted to the middle plowstandard by a bolt, 0. The standards B B B are all braced in the usual manner from the beams by the rods D. Across the beams A A is made fast the transverse bar E, which is adjustably held by bolts F in holes of the embracing and pendent arms h h of a top cross-piece, H. The latter is connected with Thus it will be seen that by placing the cross-bar E under a wagon or other axle, K, straddling the same with the arms h h of the other cross-bar H made fast to the axle, and fastening the bolts F F, there is formed a Wheel-plow or cultivator, on which the driver may sit, or which may be driven by a walking plowman.
To the front end of the beam is the usual clevis L, that is pivoted, and has the backwardly-inclined extension 1, to which is bolted a gage, M, that prevents the front plow from tending to run deeper than the others, while turning as the beam does it causes no side drag.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The plow-frame A A E, and saddle H, having adjusting hangers h h, and pivoted braces l I, combined with the axle K, as and for the purpose specified.
STEPHEN S. SOHEUMAOK.
