1,612,822 J 4 1927' P. A. JONES HAND COVERING Filed Feb. 10. 1926 k a INVENTOR.
Paul/ Jones W TTORNEY' Patented ,4, 1927.
- UNITED STATES I 1,612,822 PATENT ori ice.
raur. A; Jones, or :mcxsonvrtm, mmoz's.,.
I covnnme.
Application fl led February 10, 1926. Serial m. 07,340.
This invention relates to hand coverings, more particularly to gloves of the fabric type employed by mechanics, machinists, farmers, laborers, etc., and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an article of such class formed with a reinforced gripping face thereby materially increasing the life of the article when tion and arrangement, strong, durable,
thoroughly eflicient when used and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other ob ects the invention consists of the novel construction,
combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is an elevation of a hand covering, in accordance with this invention, looking towards the gripping face thereof, and the covering illustrated as a glove of the fabric type.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22, Fig-- ure 1.
Referring to the: drawing the glove shown is formed throughout of fabric and generally indicated by the' reference character 16 and comprises a body portion 17, finger stalls 18, 19, 20 and 21, a thumb stall 22, and a wrist band 23.
Vulcanized to the gripping surfaces of the. stalls 18, 19, 20 and 21 are respectively flat reinforcing members referred to generally when shucking, lifting and.
by the reference characters 24, 25, 26 and 2 7 and each of said members consists of two spaced sections 28, 29. Each of, the .reinforcing members is of a length, when vulcanized to its associated stall, to extend from a point in proximity to the outer end of the stall to and slightly upon the pahn of the glove body. Each of said members is constructed of a strip of rubber of appropriate thickness and the outer as. well as the inner end of said members is feathered as at 14, 15 respectively, as shown in Figure 2. The section 28 has a rounded outer end 30 and the section 29 has a tapered or pointed inner end 31. The members taper from their inner towards their outer ends.
members are straight, as. illustrated as 32 and are arranged in close proximity to each other.
Vulcanized to the working or gripping The opposed ends of the sections of each of said surface of the thumb stall 22 is a reinforcing member 33 formed of a strip of rubber from a point in proximity to the'outer end of the stall 22 to and projects slightly upon the palm of the glove body. The outer end of the member 33 is rounded as at 34 and its inner end tapered or pointed as at 35. The member 33 has feathered end edges in a manner as illustrated in connection with the reinforcing member shown in Figure 2. The member 33 tapers from its inner towards its outer end. i
The individual reinforcing members permit of free use of the hand and fingers, do not interfere with the pliability of the glove body ando'fl'er no resistance to the closing of the hand when gripping .an article. As the reinforcing members are vulcanized onto the glove body and not impregnated throughout the fabric body of the glove, perspiration is prevented thereby increasing the efficiency of the hand covering. The reinforcing members are so placed as to afford greater ease, comfort and wear and further protect the parts of the glove receiving the hardest wear. If desired the rubber reinforcing members can be colored.
It is thought the many advantages of a reinforced hand covering, such as a glove in accordance with this invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed 7 i What I claim is 1. A' hand covering comprising a bod portion in the form of a glove provided wit finger and thumb stalls, a resilient reinforcing element of appropriate thickness vulcanized to and extending lengthwise of the front face of each of said finger stalls and formed of a pair of spaced endwise opposed sections,a resilient reinforcing element vulcanized to and extending lengthwise of the front face of said thumb stall, each of said elements having a feathered outer end and a feathered inner end and. further havin its outer end rounded and its inner end tapered. y Y
2. A hand covering comprising a body portion in the form of a glove provided with finger and thumb'stalls, a resilient reinforcing element of appropriate thickness vulcanized to and extendin lengthwise of the front face of each of sald fin er stalls and formed of a pair of spaced en wise opposed sections, a resilient reinforcing element vulcanized to and extending lengthwise of the front face of said thumb stall, each of said elements having a feathered outer end and a feathered inner end and further havin its outer end rounded and its inner en tapered, the tapered inner end of each of said elements extending slightly upon the palm portion of the glove body.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.
PAUL A. JONES.
