The Nearturps in the above solvent formula is a mineral oil product which is in common use to replace some of the turpentine in the mixture of paints. The substance is a gasoline produc ed by straight distillation, as distinguished from a cracking process, and which has been deodorized by treatment with alcohol. Other trn'pentiue substitutes may be used in lieu thereof if desired.
The oil in either formula may be linseed oil or any accepted equivalent thereof, and the varnish gum may be any of the usual gums from which varnishes are made. While both cobalt acetate and lead acetate have been recited in the formula, one or the other thereof may be omitted without destroying the fireproof or other qualities of the varnish.
Minor changes may be made in the pro portions of the parts, or known equivalents may be utilized for any oi the ingredients named without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
l. A varnish comprising in combination,
drying oil, varnish gum, glycerine, lime, an
acetate, a thinner, boraX. boric acid, tungstate 01 sodium and perchlorethanc, in proportions to term a fireproot varnish.
ZZ.1\ lire-proof varnish comprising in combination, drying oil 4t? parts, varnish gun'i :30 parts, glycerine 5 parts, lime 1 part, cobalt acetate l part, lead acetate l part, a thinner it) parts. borax 15 parts, boric acid 8 parts, tungst-ate oi sodilun 3 parts and perchlorethane 2 parts.
fire-prooit varnish comprising in combination, drying oil, varnish gum, glycerine, lime, cobalt acetate, lead acetate, borax, boric acid, tungstatc of sodium, perchlorethanc, Nearturps, turpentine, zinc sulphate, and carbon tetrachloride in proportions to form a lire-proof varnish.
