TAILORS TRANSFER.

This invention, relates to 'tailors transfers and more particularly to a device whereby the measurements of clothes may be taken from a model and indicated directly upon a sheet ot paper or other material from which the pattern is to be made.
An improtant object of the invention is to provide al device whereby direct measurements tor clothes may be obtained for all seam and other pointswithout resorting to the usual proportion methods now employed.l 'l
A further object ot the invention is to provide a device `ot the above mentioned character by the use-ct which more accurate point locations may be secured on the pattern to be employed in cutting the cloth.-
A further object of the invention is to provide adevice which is simple tol use and easily set up upon the model in orderthat the necessary measurementsl and point locations may be determined in a minimum time.

Referring to the drawings. the numeral 10 designates a supporting member. as a whole comprising a pair ot' L-shaped members 11,
each having avertical arm 12 anda horizon- Y. tal arm 13. Each of the vertical members 12 may be provided adjacent its upper end with a button 14 for a purpose to be described. The horizontal portions 13 are arranged face to face as clearly shown in Figure 4 and each is provided with an elongated slot 15. A guide button 16 is carried by one ot the horizontal members 13 and engages theslot ot the other member 13. A set screw 17 is slidably arranged in the outer member 13 and has riveted engagement with the inner member 13 whereby it will be 0b vious that the members 13 are adapted to slide one against the other and may be locked in any suitable position by means ot the set screw 17. The supporting member 10 is preferably formed ot flexible material and each is provided at its lower end with abutton 1S as shown in yFigure 4. The numeral 19 designates a base line band preferably7 formed ot flexible material and provided in both ends with key hole slots 2O adapted to receive either of the buttons 18 carried by the supporting member 10. In use the sup-` porting member 10 is adapted to be arranged as shown in Figure 15 the horizontal portion 13 beingarranged directly beneath and in close contact with the arm-pit with the vertical members 1Q arranged upon opposite sides of the arm. When measurements are being taken from the position in which the device is sho-wn in Figure-1, a string or other flexible element 21 may be connected over the shoulderl of the model between the buttons 14 to maintain the horizontal portions 13 in snug contact with the armpit. The upper edge ofthe band 19 .is preferably in alinement with the upper. e'dge of the hori* zontal portions 13 so that it indicates the scye depth line as will be obvious.
The numeral 2Q designates as a whole a slide member comprising an outer bar 23 havin()` a longitudinal slot 24 therein and an inner member 25 provided with. an upstanding arm E26 as shown in Figures 3 and 7. The slot 24 is adapted to slidably receive the band 19 and a set screw 27 oar ied by the member 23 is adapted to be clamped against the band 19 to secure the slide 22 in any desired position while points are beine; located upon the model. A level 23 is munted above the member 23 so that level scye depth line be obtained as shown in Figure 1. The upper end ot the arm 26 is provided with a circular enlargement 29 provided with a dial 30 preferably calibrated in integers and eighths thereof as clearly shown in Figure rThe enlargement 29 is centrally perturbed to receive a pivot pin 3l to which is pivotally connected the inner end ot a swinging arm 32. As shown in Figure the inner end ot the arm 32 is arranged rearwardly of the enlargement 29 and an outer arm 33 is arranged adjacent the forward face ot' the enlargement. The arm 33 is apertured as at 34 and is provided with a pointer 35 adapted to register with the dial markings 30.
The outer end of the arm 32 is enlarged as at 36 to provide a circular dial 37 preferably calibrated decimally as shown in Figure 3. The enlargement 36 is centrally apertured to receive a pivot pin 33. The numeral 39 designates a pointer arm preferably formed ci? veryv thin material such Vas spring brass of about 1/123 ot an .inch thickness so as to be highly flexible. The upper end of the arm 39 is tapered and provided with a marking notch 40 as shown in Figure 3. The lower end of the arm 39 is riveted or otherwise secured to the upper end of a bar 41, the lower end of which is a trifle thicker as at 42 for reception within a socket 43 as shown in Figure 6. A collar 43 has threaded engagement with the socket 43 and the upper end ot this collar maintains the thickened end of the bar 41 in position at thel saine time allowing it to revolve. The lower end ol the socket is riveted or otherwise connected to a pair of plates 44 and 45 arranged on opposite sides of the dial 37 and pivotally connected therewith by the pin 38. The arm 45 is apertured as at 46 and provided within the aperture with a pointer 47 adapted to register with the markings ot the dial 37.
Referring to Figure 2 of the drawings it will be seen that I have shown a composite pattern laid oliE by the device just described.
For the purpose of illustration I have shown a front section 48 and a rear section 49 of a mans coat. The broken line 50 indicates the scye depth line which is the line indicated by the upper edge of the band 19 in Figure 1. l/Vith the center of the dial 30 and slide 22 arranged in vertical alinement at the center of the back, the notch 40 in the pointer arm 39 may be moved to various positions on the back section as will be obvious. The arms 32 and 39 being formed of highly flexible material, they mav be bent to conform to the curvature of the body of the model so that linear distances will be accurately taken. For instance if the notch 40 is moved inwardly and upwardly trom the position shown in Figure 1. and a notation ot the readings ot the dials 30 and 37 is taken, then the point 51 in Figure 2 will be indicated. The pointer then may be moved to the point 52 to indicate the top of the shoulder on the collar line. From this point the pointer may be moved to the point 53 to indicate the lower end of the shoulder. 71th the device in the position shown at the le't't band side ot Figure 2 points 56 and 57 and any other desired points may be located.
It desired, an additional button 61 may be secured to the supporting member and a tape line 62 suspended therefrom so that the points ot line 54-55, the center of the back, and the length of the sleeve may be determined.
The operation of the device will be obvious from the foregoing. The slidable horizontal portions of the support-ing member may be set in any desired positio-n'according to the model whose measurements are being taken. The horizontal position oi' the band may be readily determined by tilting the tree end ot the band until the bubble oit' the level is in the center as will be obvious. The flexibility of the arms 32 and 39 permit-s thesemembers to contorni to the curvatures of the model so that when the device is laid upon a flat pat-- tern the linear distances between points will be accurately marked. It will be obvious that the use of the device permits the seam and edge lines of the garments. as well as darts, etc., to be accurately marked upon the pattern.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having described my invention, I claim:
l. A device of the character described comprising a base band, a slide member mounted thereon and having an upstanding arm provided at its upper end wit-ha dial, a flexible swinging arm pivotally connected at one end to said upstanding arm centrally of said dial and having an indicator y associated therewith, said swinging arm being provided at its other end with a dial, and a pointer arm pivotally connected at one end with said swinging arm centrally of the dial thereon, said arm being provided with a rigid portion having an indica-tor movable above- `said last named dial and a flexible portion extending outwardly from said rigid portion.
2. A device of the character described comprising an adjustable substantially U-shaped supporting member. a flexible base lineband connected at one end to said supporting member. a slide member mounted on said band and having an upstanding arm provided at its upper end with a dial, a level carried by said slide member. a flexible swinging arm pivotally connected atI one end with said upstanding arm centrally of said dial and having an indicator associated therewith, said swinging arm being provided at its other end with a dial, and a flexible pointer arm pivotally connected at one end with said swinging arm centrally of th-e dial thereon and having an indicator associated therewith.
3. A device of the character described comprising a relatively straight flexible base band, a slide member arranged at an angle to said base band and having one end slidably connected therewith, said slide member having a fixed angular relationship with respect to said base band, an arm pivotally connected at one end to the other end of said slide member, means for indicating the rela tive angles of said arm and said slide member, a pointer pivotally connected at one end to the other end of said arm and means for indicating the relative angles between said pointer and said arm.
4. A device of the character described comprising a relatively straight flexible base band, a slide member arranged at an angle to said base band and having one end slidably connected therewith, said slide member being of substantial length and having a. Xed angular relationship with respect to saidrbase band, a dial associated with the other end of said slide member, a flexible swinging arm pivotally connected at one end to said slide member centrally of said dial and having an indicator associated therewith, a dial carried by the other end of said swinging arm, and a pointer arm pivotally connected at one end with said swinging arm centrally of the'dial thereon, said arm being provided with an ilndicator associated with said last named c ial.
