SANITARY FOLDABLE COT OR SEAT.

This invention relates to a foldable sanitary support for use as a bed, cot, cushion,
seat, foot and leg rest and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter referred to, a foldable support capable of being conveniently used for any one of the' purposes aforesaid and including a flexible, resilient-ly anchored body portion to provide a sanitary, yielding and cushioned supporting means for the user.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a foldable support for any one of the purposes hereinbefore referred to, and which is simple in its construction and. arrangement, strong, durable, sanitary, Icompact when folded, readily set up in supporting position, thoroughly efficient in its use, conveniently folded, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.,
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein embodiments of the invention are shown, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be made which will fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

A foldable sanitary support, in accordance with this invention, with reference to the form shown by Figures 1, 4 and 6 includes a flexible body portion provided at each side with a resilient anchor to setup a cushioning action when the body portion is used. The resilient anchors can be connected to the sides of the body portion in any suitable manner,|but preferably as a continuous folded flexible body portion is employed, the resilient anchors are arranged therein and positioned against the bends of the folds of the body portion which extends length-V wise of the latter.
Referring to Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings the reference character 15 generally indicates a folded flexible body portion 'formed from a web of any suitable material having the ends thereof indicated at 16, secured together as at 17, by suitable stitching or otherwise, so that a continuous folded flexible body portion is formed. @ne of the folds of the body portion is indicated at 18 and the other at 19. The bend between the folds at one side of the body portion 15 is indicated at 20 and the bend between the folds at the other side of the body portion 15 is indicated at 2l.
lArranged within the body portion 16 at each side thereof is a, resilient anchor 22 of any suitable construction, but preferably a pneumatic tube 23 of a length greater than the length of the body portion and of appropriate diameter. Each of the anchors 22 has its ends projected from each end of the` body portion and one of the ends of each of the tubes 23 is provided with a valve controlled filling opening 24C.
Associated with the body portion 15 is a pair of side members 25 consisting of an elongated plate .formed with -a longitudinally extending slot 26. The length of each side member corresponds substantially to the length of a resilient anchor 22 and each sidemember projects from each end of the body portion. The slots 26 in the side members are provided for the .passage of the folds of the body portion 15 and the side members' are positioned inwardly with respect to the resilient anchors 22.l The side members are fixedly supported in any suitable manner or held stationary, when the support is set up for use. When weight is generally by the reference character is constructed in the .same manner as the body portion 15 and the same type of resilient anchors, indicated at 27, as thatl shown in Figures 1 and 2 is employed. The anchors- 27 are arranged in the body portion 25 in the same manner as the anchors 22 are arranged in the body portion 15. In Figure 1 of the drawings the folds of the body portion 15 abut, whereas in Figure 4 ofthe drawings, a heat resisting element 28 is interposed between the folds 29 and 30 of the body portionv 25.
The structure shown in Figure "4 of the drawings, includes a different form of side members from that emplo ed in the structure shown in Figure 1. n-Figure 4 each of the side members is referred to by the reference characters 31 and consist of an inverted L-shaped bracket 32, provided with end pieces 33. The horizontal arm ofthe bracket 31 extends inwardly at right angles to the upper portion of -the vertical arm of the bracket. The horizontal arm of the bracket 32 isformed With a lengthwise extending slot l-33, through which passes the i folds of the flexible body portion 25. The
resilient anchors 27 are positioned within the body portion and extend over .the hori- -zontal arms of the brackets 32 whereby when pressure is applied to the body portion 25 the latter and the anchors 27 bind against the -portiqn 15.` e

Referrin to Fi es 6 to 11 of the drawings, the e mem rs 36 illustrated thereby, as well as the resilient anchors 37 are of the same construction and arrangement with're- 'peet to the flexible body portion 38 as that shown in -Fi re 1 with respect to the body portion 38 is the same in construction and arrangement as Ythe body portion 15 with this exception, that the .up-
per fold'39 of the body portion -38 is formed with an oval-shaped opening 40 between the transverse center and head end of the body portion 38 and the lower fold 40 of the latter isslitted as at 41, 42, 43 and.44 transversely to provide a pair of transversely extending tabs 45, 46.v vThe end portions4 and by not securing together such portions of the ends of the web the free ends of the tabs 45 and 46 are provided. The'freeends of the tabs 45 and 4G are provided with resilient anchors 47 which are positioned.below the lower face of the body portion 38 and mounted on and common to the tabs 45, 46 is a slotted plate 48 through which said tabs extend, and said plate 48 is interposed between the resilient anchors 47 and the lower face of the fold 40, see Figure 9; Normally the'lower ends of the tabs which are provided with the resilient anchors abut, as shown in Figure 9 and the said lower ends are arranged below and extend 'across the opening 40. lVhen the tabs are pulled apart, to the position shown/in Figure 10, a passage 48 is provided which is arranged below the opening 46 and when the passage 48 is provided, a latching member 49 is employed and positioned upon `the ends of the resilient' anchors 47 for the purpose of maintaining the lower portions of the tabs apart to form the`pas between a'front and rear seat 5,1, 52 thereof,
and it consists of a pair of oppositely entending flexible members 53, 54 adapted to be de-l ta'chably connected as at 55 to the doors of the vehicle body at the outer ends'of said members 53, 54. The inner ends of said members 53, 5,4"extend through a slotted plate 56 and are provided with'resilient anchors arranged below the plate 56. -The formof Vdevice shown in Figure 12 can be employed to support the legs of a person or form a coritinuation of thelseat 52 to constitute a; bed.
A foldable sanitary support, in accordance with this invention,- can be vused as a bed, cot, cushion, seat, foot and leg rest and provides a flexible, Vresiliently anchored body portion to form a sanitary, yielding and cushioned supporting means for the user thereof, then furthermore with respect to the form shown -invFigures 1 and 4, the body pc-rtion can. be adjusted to change the position4 of the folds 29 and 30,-,that is to say when ments each provided with a len the fold 29 becomes soiled the body portionv can be adjusted so that the fold 30 can be employed as the upper fold, and it is thought the many advantages of a foldable sanitary support, in accordance with this invention, can ,be readilg' understood and although the preferred em odiments of the invention are as illustrated and described, yet itis to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:\-
1. In afoldable support for the purpose referred to, a flexible body portion, resilient anchoring means carried at each side thereof, slotted side members entirely mounted on the body portion adajacent each side of the latter and coacting with said anchoring means to provide a cushioning action when the body portion is used, said body portion formed of a continuous web of fabric folded to provide an upper and a lower fold, said anchoring means arranged between the folds of and abutting against the bends between the folds, said' anchoring means further arranged outwardly with respect to said side members, and said side members maintaining said body portion in enveloping position with respect to said anchoring means. l

In a foldable support for the purpose referred to, a pair of spaced rectsgular cletending slot, a exible body portion formed from a continuous web of fabric folded to provide an upper and a lower fold, said folds extending through a slot of each element, said elements positioned inwardly with lrespect to the bend between the folds, and a wise ex- 4 pair of resilient anchoring devices, each of 4said devices arranged between the folds of said body one of sald elements and a bend between the folds, said "elements coacting with said anchoring devices to provide a cushioning action when the body portion is used,

A.A foldable support for the purpose referred to comprising a flexible body portion formed of an upper and a lower fold, a tubular pneumatic anchoring element arranged at each side'of the body ortion, positioned between the folds of tle latter and bearing against the bends between the folds, and slotted means mounted on the body portion inwardly of and coacting with said elements to provide a cushioning action when the body portion is used.
