To all whowit 'may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS JERMAIN, of the village of Green Island, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in WindOw-Blind-Slat Locks; and I do hereby doolare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in whichy Figure I is a side elevation, and Fig. II is a plan view, of my invention, showing the lock attached to a window-blind, and holding the slats of the blind locked in a closed position. Fig. III is a side-elevation view of the same, showing the slats locked in a partiallyopen position. Fig. 1V is a side-elevation View of my invention shown as unlocked. In this position the slats of the blind may be moved in any desired direction. Fig. V is a perspective view of the combined key and handle of the lock, by which the slats of the blind are locked or unlocked and moved into any given position. Fig. VI is a perspective view of the lock divested of the spring and the combined key and handle, and'showing the teeth and notches on both sides of the same. Fig. VII is a cross-section view of my invention when in the position indicated by Fig. IV, obtained by passing a vertical plane through that portion of the same indicated by the dotted line in Fig. IV.

The object of my invention is to enable any person, by using one hand only, and in the most simple manner, to easily and quickly adjust and securely fasten movable window-blind slats in any given position, and as easily and quickly to unfasten, readjust, and again securely fasten the slats in any given position.
My invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of a spring, firmly attached to the frame or stile of the windowblind by a block and screw, which force the spring down into the notches between the teeth of the lock, which lock is attached by two screws to the rod which is connected to the movable slats, and which then renders the slats immovable until the spring is raised above the teeth.
The lock G contains, beneath the end ofthe spring E, the movable key or plate B, with the arms c a', which is connected with the handle T by the facing-plate A.
By raising the handle T the stii" plate or key B is correspondingly raised, and with it and above it the spring E, until the spring is raised out of and above the notches between the teeth c c c, and assumes the position represented in Fig. IV. In this position the lock C, and with it the rod D, can be easily moved either to the right or left, (as viewed in the drawing,) the spring sliding on the key or plate B.
When the slats of the blind are adjusted in the position desired, by means of the handle T, the hold upon the same is relaxed, and the spring E immediately forces the key or plate B down below or even with the base of the notches between the teeth c c c, and itself into the notch directly below the spring, and so holds the slats in the position desired.
The plate A serves to connect the key B, provided with the arms c a', with the handle T; also, as a cover and protection to the lock C.
The aboveV description supposes the blindl to which the lock is attached to be lying ilat down, with the lock uppermost, as represented in the accompanying drawings therein referred to.
The handle T may be of any suitable form.
