PAPER-DSPENSING CABINET.
Application filed September 17, 1921.
This invention relates to paper dispensing cabinets.
An object of this invention is to provide a dispensing cabinet for paper towels and i: the like whereby the towel being withdrawn drops freely through the discharge opening a nd the remaining towels are held in proper position within the cabinet.
A further feature of the invention is to provide improved supporting means for a stack of interfolded leaves of paper, such as towels and the like, whereby the withdrawal of the lea-l or leaves of the withdrawn towel is effected without disturbance of the remainder of the stack.
InV accordance with the preferred form of the invention the cabinet is provided with a slot in or at its bottom through which the free end of the lowermost towel projects; oppositely disposed, freely mounted rollers for supporting from the bottom a stack of interfolded towels, and guides extending respectively from locations closely adjacent the two rollers and curved toward the opposite slot.
The cabinet is provided with al door, usually hinged and which may be located at one side of the cabinet.
Further features of the invention will be more fully understood from the following detail description and the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the invention showing the door of the cabinet in open posit-ion and ready to be charged with a stack of interfolded towels; and
Fig. 2 is a central vertical transverse section of the cabinet charged with a stack of towels and with the door in closed position.
Referring to the drawings, the cabinet is shown of elongated rectangular formation, comprising the bottom 3 provided with the longitudinally extending slot 4, the hinged door 5 for closing one side, the topV 6, and the ends 7, 8.
The door may be provided with the keylock 9, the striker plate of which may be fixed to the top 6.
On opposing sides of the delivery slot 4 are arranged the pair of rollers 11, 12, mounted to be freely rotatable, as by providing the central short shafts 13 extending at each end of the rollers 11, 12, and bearing Serial No. 501,327.
in suitable openings 14, 14, in the opposite ends 7 8 of the cabinet.
Located between the roller l1 and the discharge slot 4 I provide the guide 15 of general curved formation, extending from the location 1G somewhat adjacent the roller 11 and curved downwardly as indicated at 1T toward a longitudinal edge of the slot4.
Similarly, the guide 18 is'disposed between the roller 12 and the discharge slot 4 and 'extends from a location 19 closely adjacent the roller 12 and curved downwardly as in-` dicated at 2O toward the opposite longitudinal edge of the discharge slot 4.
The stack of interfolded paper towels or the like is indicated at 2l and the free end y 22 of the lowermost towel is shown extending through the discharge slot 4, accessible to be grasped by the user. Such lowermost towel lies in contact with the curved portion "17 of the guide 15 and from thence extends in contact with the uppermost portion 23 of the roller 11 aroundand about the end 24 of the next towel 25, and interfolded as is indicated at 26, within its leaves or between a` fold of such next towel.
Accordingly upon manually pulling the free end 22 of the lowermost towel, the end 24 of the next 'towel 25 Vwill be withdrawn from its position in the stack and out of contact with the roller 11 and emerge through the discharge slot 4 with the removal of the remaining leaf 26 of the lowermost or withdrawn towel.
The free end 24 of the exposed leaf of ther succeeding towel now discharge opening 4 will rest upon the guide 18.
Upon manually drawing the towel 25, the free end of the next succeeding towel will be similarly withdrawn through the discharge opening 4 to bring the lowerleaf of such next succeeding towel in the position indicated in Fig. 2, relative to the firstnamed lowermost towel.
It will be noted that the free rotary movement of the two rollers enables the lowermost towel to be withdrawn without disturbance of the stack and at the same time to bring the lower leaf of the next succeeding towel into discharging relation with the discharge slot 4. Such operation of the withdrawal of .the lowermost towel and the preparatory projects through the and the exposed leaf curved face of the 'fIi.ii...i.iii.i....i.ii.treatment@ movement tor Withdrawal ot the next succeeding towel enables the rollers to be located Well Within the base of the stack ot towels to thereby support the stack Without material sagging at its center.
From the above, it will be observed that l have provided a cabinet of simple construction, insuring the absence ot' disarrangement ot' the opera-ting parts, and also insuring the proper support ot the stack as it is progressively decreased by Withdrawals so that but one towel at a time is eliectively Withdrawn from the cabinet until thc cabinet is ei:- hausted of its charge.
Such guides l5, 18, may be formed of plate material, as by stamping or otherwise and provided with the ears 27 at the opposite ends ot the plates 15, 1S, which are turned downwardly, as is indicated in Figs. l and 2, to serve as feet for supporting the guides l5, 18 on the base 3 or the cabinet. The feet 27 may be secured to the base 8 or to the opposite ends 7, S of the cabinet, by solder'- ing, riveting or by other suitable nieans.
lllhereas, l have described my invention by reference to specilic forms thereof it will be understood that many changes and modit'ieations may be made Without departing from the spirit ot' the invention.
I claim,
l. A cabinet for a stack of intertolded fiat paper articles, comprising an enclosure having a base provided with a longitudinally ertending discharge slot, a pair of rollers disposed Wholly Within said enclosure and on the opposite sides ot said slot, each of said rollers being cylindrical and of a full circiimt'erence. a pair of curved guide plates,
means tor Ilxedly mounting said guide plates Within said enclosure and respectively betvfcen said rollers and said discharge slot, the curved portions of said guides being directed respectively toward said discharge slot, and means tor freely, rotatably mounting said rollers to locate a portion of the cylindrical suriace ot said rollers above said guide plates and thereby Wholly support said stack ot paper articles by said rollers and independently ot said guide plates.
fr cabinet tor a stack ot interfolded ilat paper articles, comprising an enclosure havinglv a base provided with a longitudi nally extending discharge slot, a pair otl rollers disposed wholly within said enclosure and on the opposite sides of said slot, each ot said rollers being cylindrical and ot a full cii'cmnterence, a pair ot' curved guide plates, means for iisedly mounting said guide plates within said enclosure and respectively between said rollers and said discharge slot, the curved portions of said guides rbeing direzted respectively toward said discharge slot, means ior ireely, rotatably mounting said rollers to locate a portion ot' the cylindrical surface ot said rollers above said guide plates and thereby Wholly support said stack ot paper articles by said rollers and independent-ly ot said guide plates, a door, and means for mounting said door independently of said pair of rollers and oi said guide plates.
'ln testimony Whereoiz I have signed this specification this 15th day of September, 192i.
