A. R. WILSON GAS BURNER Filevd April 27, 1926 I nventor f/f/Q- 77//9027 Patented Dee. i4, i925.
` UITED ALVA RAYMOND WILSON, 07F MGLNE, KANSAS.
GAS BURNER.
Application led April 2, 1926. Serial No. 104,961.
The present invention relates to a gas burner and aims to provide a structure which is very economical in the use of the gas and yet is highly eilicient in obtaining the maximum heat therefrom When burning.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a gas burner of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, economical in use, strong and durable, compact, and otherwise Well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
.With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as Will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure l is a top plan view of the burner embodying the features of my invention,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethru,
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the gas pipe, and
Fig. 4 is a transverse section through the burner.
Referring to the drawing in detail` it Will be seen that 5 denotes a drum having one end closed as at 6 While the other end is open for receiving a closing cap 7 through which extends a gas pipe 8. rlihis gas pipe 8 is adapted to extend through the drum 5 and through an opening 9 provided in the end 6. The outer ends of the pipes are threaded as is indicated at 1 in order to be connected with a source of supply. The gas is led into both ends of this pipov which Within the drum, is provided with a pair of longitudinally extending slots l() on the bottom thereof. The drinn is provided with pair of longitudinally extending slots 1l at the upper side thereof so that the slots 11 are diametrically opposed to the slots in relation to the axis of the pipe 8 and the drum 5 which are coincident.
A burner plate l? is mounted on the exterior of the drum 5 and includes a pair of transversely arcuate sections 12 provided with elliptical openings 13 the longer axes of which are disposed transversely of the4 sections 12. The intermediate portion. that is that portion 'along the median longitudinal dimension of the plate P is in engagement With the exterior surface of the drum 5 between the slots 11 as is indicated at specifically 14, While the longitudinal side edges of the plates are in abutment with the exterior surface of the drum as is indicated at l5.
lt'ivill thus be seen that the gas from a suitable source of supply7 flows into both ends of the pipe 8 and meets at the approximate center of this pipe and the center-of the drum, and Will therefore be forced downwardly through the slots and fill the drum 5, and then pass out through the4 tvvo pairs of slots l1 into the space between the exterior surface of the drum' 5 and the plate P.
rlhe gas will be forced out through the openings 13 and Will suck in air at 16, that is, at one end of. the plate P, it being noted that the other end thereof is maintained closed by the flange 1'? of the cap 7. r
From actual experience I have found this to be a most efficient and economical burner particularly for use in boilers and the like. rlhe consumption of gas is surprisingly lov1 While the heat in proportion to the gas used is comparatively great. The structure is simple and can be manufactured at a very low cost as the various parts may be cast and parts may be easily and quickly assembled o r disassembled as desired for the purpose of cleaning or repairs.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely by Way of example, since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It is apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to lWithout departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed, or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my what l claim as nevv is l. A gas burner of the class described including a drum having one end closed and the other end open, the closed end being provided with a central opening, a cap havinvention,
ing a gas supply pipe extending therethru and adapted to extend through the opening in the closed end, the portion of the pipe disposed Within the drum being provided with a pair of longitudinally extending slots no adjacent the center thereof and at the bot-` tom thereof, said drum being provided with slots at the top thereof, and an apertured burner plate on the drinn over the slots thereof.
2, A gas burner of the class described including a drinn having one end closed and the other end open, the closed end being provided with a central opening, a. capl having a gas supply pipe extending therethru, and adapted to extend throughy the opening in the closed end, the portion of the pipe disposed Within the d'ruin being provided with. a pair of longitudinally extending slots adjacent the center thereof, and at the bot-toni thereof, said drain being provided with. slot-s at' the top thereof, an apertured burner plate on the drinn over the slots thereof, said plate including a pair of transversely bowed sections so that the inter mediate portion' and side edges of the plate abut the exterior surface ofthe drum.
3. A gas burnery of the class described including ai drinn having' one end closed` and the other end open, the closed end being provided With a central opening, a cap having a gas supply pipe extending therethru, and adapted to extend through the opening in the closed end, the portion of the pipe disposed Within the drinn being provided with a pair of longitudinally extending slots adjacent the center thereof, and at the bottoni thereof, said drum being provided with slots at thev topl thereof, an apertured burner plate on the drum over the' slots thereof, said plate including a pair of transverselyy bowed sections so that the` intern'iediate portion and the side edges of the plate' abut the' exteriorA surface of the drum, the apertures in said plate being elliptical in formation With the longer axes thereof disposed transversely of thel plate.
In testimony whereof I af'-X my signature.
