Description

Dec. 7,1926. 1,610,146 R. J. PANZER 1 CONTAINER Filed Feb. 18, 1925 ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 7, 1925.
UNITED STATES I PATENT orFics;
ROBERT aosnrn rAnzEa, or sumul'r, ILLmoI s.
conrsmnn.
Application filed February 18, 1925. Serial No. 10,135.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in containers and more particularly to a device especially adapted for use in containing articles of jewelry and the like. The main object of the present in-- vention is the provision of a container divided into several compartments whereby var ous articles of ewelry are contained within the compartments so that they may be quickly and readily obtained when it is "desired to use the same. T-
Another object of my. invention is the provision of a container which will be preferabl known as a handy companion with the b0 y of the container-having a removable tray divided into several compartments for receiving various articles of jewely and the I constructed Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view with the cover in an OPEDPOSltlOD, and v Fig. 3 is a transverse'section through the casing adjacent one end thereof with the tray'removed.
In carrying out my invention I provide a substantially rectangular body member 1, although, various'other designs may be used in forming the container. Hinged to one si'de'of the body 1 is a cover 2 having downwardly projecting flanges 3 around the edges thereof. 4
Arranged within the body and extending longitudinally thereof upon each side wall is a sup orting flange 4 which supports the re- I mova le tray 5. This tray 5 is divided into several compartments by means of the transverse and longitudinal extending strips 6 and 7, formin a central transverse compartment 8, an upon opposite sides of the central transverse compartment are the transversely ali e'd compartments 9 extending longitudin y of the case, thus forming at least five compartments in the tray.
in accordance with my inven- I and shapes for carrying 'vari The compartments of the tray 5-are normally closed by means of an innercover member 10 which consists-of a stiff body portion 11 having a covering of leather,
velour or 'other'slmilar material with the cover portion extending beyond the inner longitudinal edge of the body 11 and secured to the inner side of the rear wall of the body 1, as shown at 12, whereby to provide a hinged connection between the inner cover 10 and the rear side of the body 1. The
forward edge of the cover 10 isprovided with a fastening member .13 adapted to en gage a fastening member 14 carried by the inwardly projecting ear 15 on the tray whereb the cover 10 may be securely retained in. position over the upper face of the tray. In order to. facilitate raising of the cover 10 a flexible loop 16 is connected'to the uppersurface thereof adjacent the forgvard edge, as is clearly illustrated in Figure The cover 2 carries a hasp 17 at its outer edge adapted to. engage with a lock member 18 carried by the body whereby to securely retain the cover 2 in a closed position. The,
interior. of the cover is preferably covered with a mirror 19 and the cover is supported in a raised position as shown in Figure .2 by means of the bars 20 which are pivotally connected to the end flanges of the cover as at 21 while the lower ends carry pins 22 which are movable in the slots 23 formed upon the innerfaces of the end walls of the body 1, said slots having adownturned portion 24 in which the pin's22 rest when the cover is in a raised position.
It will benoted that by supporting tray 5 in spaced relation with the bottom of the body 1, a compartment 25 is' provided beneath t e tray whereby hand-kerchiefs, neckties, socks and small articles of apparel of this character may be carried withm thecontainer. The upper face of the tray 5 is preferably covered with a soft pliable covering; such; as, velour, plush or the like, as
nesting for valuable articles of jewelry.
From the, above description taken in connection with the accompan ing drawings, it
will be readilyappreciate that a container constructed in accordance with my inven-' tion will be extremely useful for the travelling public, -due to the fact that this container may be'made up in various deslgns shown at 26, so as to provide convenient ous articles of v jewelry and small articles of wearing apparel so that they need not'be placed in a travelling bag or other container in a loose state, and when placed in my improved container will be always in position so as they may be readily obtained for use.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportionsmay be resorted to for successfully carrying-my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claim. v
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
An article of the classdescribed including a body, a removable tray defining a number of compartments and confined within the body in spaced relation with respect to the bottom wall of the body and including an inwardly projecting portion formed on one of the side walls of the tray, means for supporting the tray in said spaced relation, a
cover member hingedly connected to the body for-"the tray, aflexible loop connected to the cover member to facilitate moving the cover 7 Intestimony whereof I afiix my signature.
