This invention relates to improvements in blower housings or fan casings.
It is the ob ect of the invention to facilitate the construction of fan casings or the like by demountably' holding the peripheral wall of such a casing under tension about the generally annular. side walls at 7 and 8, respectively, with openings such centrally opening grooves 13 and outer raas may be used either to receive shaft bearings or to provide inlets to the casing. Each such wall is provided with extensions at 9 forming the sides ofa tangentialoutlet or discharge conduit. p
The peripheral wall 10 of the housing extends continuously between its ends'll and 12. Itis made in the form of a flat strip except for marginal beads which provide dial flanges lat. Near the end 11' of the peripheral wall is a'fitting 15 which is made fast to the wall by means of rivets 16 and receives. tension membershereinafter to be described. The ends of'the strip of metal which comprises fitting 15 are angularly-bent or twisted as at 17 to lie substantially at right angles to the tension members.
Near its end 12'the peripheral wall 10 is acutely angled as at 18 to fit the angle between the arcuate peripheries of the end walls 5 and 6 and the rear margins 19 of the tangential extensions 9 of such walls.
In assembling the device the peripheral wall strip 10 is made to encircle the peripheries of the generally annular walls 5 and 6.

such legs being threaded and extended through suitable apertures in the twisted ends 17 of fitting 15 and there provided with nuts 22. The transverse member 23 0f the U bolt extends across the device in the angle between the vertical and peripheral por-- tions of wall 10 nearthe extremity 12 of such wall.
- It will be obvious that by turning up the 2 nuts 22 the peripheral wall may be drawn tightly into place to complete a blower housing which requires no rivets or other securing devices such as might make the structure On the conrelease nuts 22 and to disassemble the blower housing whenever it is deslred to substitute a new blower fan therein or to obtain access to the interior thereof for any purpose.
While it is broadly immaterial just what direction is taken bythe tension members 20- and 21 it is preferred that they should extend either tangentially to the arcuate peripheral portions-of walls 5 and 6 or else that they should sub-divide the angle at 18.

1. A blower housing comprising opposing end walls'provided with extensions comprising opposing walls of an outlet'passagato- 'gether with an encircling peripheral wall engaging the margins 'of said first mentioned walls, and provided near its ends with ten- 781011 members extendlng across said extenend, a-member extending transversely across said periphe'ralwall near its other end, and tension rods'adjustably connecting said member with the ends of said fitting across the extensions of said first mentioned walls.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination with opposed wall members of generally'annular contourprovided integrally with tangentially extended portions,

of a peripheral wall encircling the margins of said members and extended outwardly along opposite margins of said portions near its ends, a fitting secured to said peripheral wall near its outer end, and a ll bolt having a transverse portion engaging said periphe 'al wall near its inner end, the inner end of said peripheral wall being angled to provide a seat for said portion, the legs 01' said U bolt being received through the apertures of said fitting on opposite sides of the extended portions oi said wall members and 11 ring nuts threaded thereon in engagement with said fitting, whereby adjustably to tension said peripheral wall.

In a device oi the character described, the combination with opposed casing walls having corresponding arcuate margins, of a peripheral Y'all encircling said margins and provided with marginal grooves receiving margins of said opposing walls, together with a fitting connected with said perioheral wall near one of its ends, and a tension member com'iected with said peripheral wall near the other of its ends and adjnstably bearing upon said litt-ing, said tension member being adapted to draw said peripheral wall snugly about the margins of said opposing walls and releasably to maintain all of said walls in rigid connection.
5. in a device oi the character described, the combination with opposed walls provided with curved margins and corresponding extensions having their inside edges at an acute angle to portions or sai margins and their outside edges substantially tangential to other portions of said margins; ot' a peripheral wall encircling said curved margins and having its ends extended up said edges, said peripheral wall having an acute angle near one end; means detachably interlock ing said peripheral wall with said opposed walls; a transverse member seated in the acute angle of iaid wall; tension members connected the 'ewith and traversing said en tensions; and a fitting connected to said peripheral wall near its other end and adj a tabl3 connected with said tension mcn'il'z-crs, whereby said members may be used to draw said peripheral wall about said carved maris releasably to maintain interlocking engagement between said peripheral and opposed walls.
6. In a device of the character described,
the combination with opposed walls prorided with curved margins and corresponding extensions having their inside edges at an acute angle to portions of said margins and their outside edges substantially tangential to other portions of said margins; of a reripheral wall encircling said curved margins and having its ends extended up said edges, said peripheral wall having an acute a igle near one end; means including beads substantially throughout the length of said peripheral wail engaging the margins oi said opposed walls and detachably interlocking said peripheral wall with said op iosed walls; a transverse member seated in the acute angle of said wall; tension members connected therewith and traversing said extensions; and a fitting connected to said peripheral wall near its other end and adjusi'ably connected with. said tension menwhereby said members may be used to .raw said peripheral wall about said curved margins releasably to n'iaintain interlocking engagement between said peripheral and oppor d walls.
