IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent Nol60,912, dated March 16, 1875; application filed October 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OHN HUDsoN, of the city 'of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented an Improve ment in Junction or Joint Buckle, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of this invention relates to a new and improved construction of a device for the double purpose of securing two abutting ends of a leather or other strap together, while at the same time it fully performs the function of a billed buckle; and it has for its object to save sewing the two abutting ends of the strapstogether, thereby saving at least three inches of leather in the ordinary overlap, and obviating the danger of ripping, and preventiug the chafing ot' the strap across the center bar or buckle, and the unnecessary weakening of the leather .at that part by cutting a hole through it to receive the tongue of the buckle.

In the drawings, A represents the base of my buckle, which is corrugated, as shown, on its upper or inner face, and from this face there project studs B, as many as desired, although for all ordinary purposes four are all that will be required. 0 are the sides, and D are the loops, the whole of the parts A, B, G, and I) being preferably cast in one piece. so, and the holes therein slipped onto the studs, when the compression-plate is put in place, the studs riveted down, when the pressure of the corrugations will hold the straps rigidly together. About the center of the compressiondate a tongue, F, is pivoted or hinged, in the usual manner, so that the free end of the strap may be returned under one of the loops, and secured by the tongue.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination of the plate A, having the studs B, with the compression plate E, having the holes a and tongue F, as shown.
2. The combination of the plate A, having ,the studs B, with the compression-plate E, having the holes 0/ and tongue F, both of said plates being corrugated, as shown, for the purpose of holding the straps rigidly in place, as set forth.
3. The combination of the plate A, having the studs B, sides 0, and loops D, of the compression-plate E, having the holes aand tongue F, all as and for the purpose set forth.
