CIRCULAR-SAW S1132 DRESS.
Application filed December 12, 1925. Serial Ifv'o. 75,9%.
like which may readily be adjusted to saws of different diameters.
And a still further object of the invention is to provide a side dress for circular saws or the like in which a file may readily be clamped and in which the angle of the file may readily be adjusted to the angle of the teeth.
With these ends in view the invention embodies a holding frame, a wedge shaped member slidable in said frame, a file holding member adjustably held to the outer end of the said wedge shaped member, and suitable set screws for adjusting the position of the said device.
Other features and advantages of the invention will be seen from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, wherein Figure l is a side view of the device with parts broken away.
Figure 2 is a rear view of the upper end of the device.
Figure 3 is a vertical section through the center of the upper end of the device.
Figure 4 is a cross section on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
In the drawings I have shown my device as it would be made wherein numeral 1 indicates a holding frame, numeral 2 the wedge shaped member, and numeral 3 the file holding member.
The holding frame 1 is made with a dat plate 4 at the lower end and lugs 5 with dovetailed grooves 6 in them extending upward from the edges of the upper part of the plate 4, and in the upper part of the center of the plate 4; is a slot 7 through which a bolt 8 passes to hold the member 2. It will be observed that the bolt 8 is rigidly held in the member 2 and is provided with a nut 9 and a friction washer 10 at its outer end by which it may readily clamp the*member 2 in any position along the frame 1. It will be adjusted by the be observed that when4 thevnut 9 kis loose the' member 2 is free toslideupwarduor downwardin the Vgrooves Gy of the member 1, and with the lower end ofthe plate l placed upon the hub or spindle of thesaw, or'any Suitable object adjacenty theV center or base, the member 2 may be .adjusted tosuchapositiony that aglile-v heldy inA the member 3*, here` inafter described, will engage the sides of the teeth of the saw, and then the nut 9 may be tightened to rigidly hold the iile in place. The member 2 is made as shown, with projections 11 at the sides to engage the grooves 6, and at the upper end is an inclined plate 12 having hubs 13 adjacent the lower end, a set screw 14 in the outer end, and openings 15 through which studs 16 from the member 3 may project. Below the plate 12 are projections 17 which extend outward from each side and in which are set screws 18 that are held by lock nuts 19 to hold the set screws in any suitable position. It will be observed that the set screws may be screwed outward until they engage the face of the saw and then locked in position so that they will rigidly hold the tile a predetermined distance from the saw.
rlhe member 3 is held in the hubs 13 by set screws 20, and the upper portion of the member 3 is formed with a fiat plate having a lug 21 in its upper end in which a set screw 22 is screwed. On the plate 3 is another plate with grooves in the edges that slide over the edges of the plate 3 and a projection 23 at the upper end in which the screw 22 is held. It will be observed that the position of the upper plate may readily set screw 22, and when a file as indicated by the numeral 24 is placed in the device it will engage a shoulder 25 on the plate 3 and by screwing the set screw 22 inward the file may be rigidly clamped between the shoulder 25 and the lower edge of the upper plate.
It will beunderstood that changes may be made in the construction without departin(r from the spirit of the invention, one of which changes may be in the design of the holding frame; another may be in the use of other means for holding the member 2 to the holding frame; and still another may be in the use of other means for holding and-` adjusting the member 2 from the member 3.
The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. To use the device a file may be placed in the member 3 as hereinbeiore described and it will be observed that by gripping` the holding trame l and placing the lower end thereof upon an object adjacent the center of the saw the file may readily be held against the side of the teeth to dress the teeth. It Will also be observed that the device may be adjusted to saws of dierent diameters and to teeth of different angles, and a similar device which may be set to a different angle may be used on the opposite side of the saw in a similar manner.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the class described, a
grooved bar, a member siidable in the said grooves, means for holding the member in different positions, another member adjustably held to the outer end ot the said lattermember, means for holding a ile or the like in the said adjustable member, means for readily adjusting` the angle oi the said adjustable member in relation to the said slidable member, means for locking said angular adjusting means and adjustable means for holding the said device away "from the face of an object against which it may be placed.
In testimony whereof I hereby aiix my signature.
