The objectfoffmy present inventioniis to provide certain new and useful improvements in shooting arms of the type wherein the expansion of gas compressed in a. reservoir is used for thepropelling of the yprojectile. Said rear part of the loader rests on the packing .28v of the shutting piston of the reservoir and is adapted yto longitudinally slide upon pulling a knob or button 35 rearwardly in a cylindrical recess 36 'at the base of thebarrel, whilst the swelling- 34 will slide within the reservoir so as to uncover the inlet 37 for the projectile 38 and enable lill the latterl to bey inserted into the recess 36 of the barrel. ln this operation the rear part 'ot the loader which rests on the packing 28 of the shutting piston of the reser voir, causes said shutting piston to move rearwardly against the action of the spring 25, the shutting piston and loader then assuming the positions shown inFig. 5. Upon the release of the'pulling knob 35' said partswill be brought back by the expansion of the spring 25 to their initial positions shownin a and the projectile will enter the interior of the loader. Said device will secure the tightness of the res'eiiioir.A
The operation of the arm may thus be eX- plaine'd as follows: n
The cock 9 will be raised, vthe reservoir being then tightly closed. The knob 85 of the loader kwill be moved rearwardly so Vas to uncover the' inlet 37 for the projectile' and the latter will ybe inserted. The reservoir will be set under pressure by means of the air pump, air entering ther compartment 12, then the compartment 19 raising the ball 211 which will be forced back upon its seat by the spring 21 after each admission of air. Y
If the compression pump is not operated, the compartments 12 and 19E of the reservoir will not be inconnnuni'cation, but the pressure ofair is equal in both compartments. .lf this pressure is deemed to be sufficient for shooting, the arm will be ready for shooting.
lf it is desired to shoot, the trigger 39 will be actuated as in ordinary arms, whereupon the cock 9 will strike thejmovablei head 11, whereby theV valve 10 will be opened to aliow ttf-escape of air eontainedrinthe compartinentV 12 of the reservoir inte the:V outer atmosphere through channels 13 and 14' and ports 15. Owing to the vacuum thus produced in the compartment12 and the pres-- sure in the compartmentY 19, the shutting piston will be suddenly forced backwardly. Then the opening of the loader 30 will be uncovered land compressed air from the'compartment 19 will suddenly enter said loader and afterwards the barrel to force the projectile forwardly for shooting. i
When the spring 25 will force the shutting-piston 16 forwardly to its initial position, the swelling 18 thereof closing theV opening of the loader. Upon raising the cock, the reservoir will be ready for char ing. Y Y
It will be obvious that the hand compressing `pump may be replaced by a tube containing one or more charges of compressed gas. Likewise for long range arms such as mechanical guns, ordnance aiiydvthe like. l may use any gas supplying device such as a compressor, highly compressed gas containing flasks and the like, such `devices' being connected to the reservoir Iofthe arm by any suitable conduit 'provided if necessary with'a pressure reducing device and a pressure gauge, such devicesfbeing made integral with the'r arms or independent from the same..
