ATTORNEY Nov. 9, 1926.
il 5 E WALTER H. MAY, OF NEW YORK, 1, Y.
DSELAY RACK.
Application filed September 25, 1925.
The object of the present invention is to' erence to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section through a cabinet in which the device is installed, the device being illustrated in its outermost position, the dotted lines indicating the position of the device when partially moved back into normal position;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the cabinet with the device installed therein, one of the doors being open to expose. the device;
Figure 8 is a detail fragmentary elevation showing two of the pivotal supporting bars and their method of attachment to members of the device;
Figure 4 is a transverse section on the line 4 4, Figure 3.
The rack proper comprises two vertical bars 1, each bar being disposed at one side of the cabinet. These bars are connected by the top connecting rod 2 and the lower connecting rod 3. Mounted upon bars 2 and 3 are a plurality of brackets 4, each bracket comprising a horizontal forwardly projecting arm having an apertured boss 4X mounted upon rod 2, and horizontal rod 4 is connected either integrally or otherwise with a rearwardly and downwardly extending arm, which at its lower end is provided with an apertured boss 4XX upon rod 3. The brackets 4 may be mounted for free lateral movenient upon rods 2 and 3 or they may be fixed upon the rods as desired.
Each bracket 4 is adapted to receive a comforter, blanket or the like, which may be folded over upon the horizontal bar 4 and thence extended downwardly at each side of the bar, as will be understood without further explanation.
The bracket arms 4 are so controlled as to be capable. of bodily forward and backward movement with rode 2 3, whilst main= Serial No. l58,479.
taining their horizontal position, and the weight of the brackets and the units supported thereby is thrown rearwardly upon the back wall of the cabinet as will now be further described.
Substantially in line with each vertical bracket arm 1 and readily secured upon the back wall of the cabinet A is a pivot plate 5, having spaced apertured ears 5X between which is placed the apertured end of a pivotal supporting rod 6, a pin 7 holding the rod in place. Each rod 6 is apertured at its lower end to receive a stud 8 which passes through a vertical slot 9 formed'in vertical bracket bar 1 and is headed so as to be maintained within said slot.
Also rigidly secured upon the back wall A of the cabinet is a guide plate 10 formed with vertically spaced walls which receive between them the apertured end of a pivotal supporting rod 11. rlhe spaced walls of guide plate 10 are provided with vertical apertures 10X to receive a stud 12 which passes through the apertured lower end of rod 11. The rod 11 at its upper end is provided with an apertured boss w iich receives horizontal rod 2. The rods 6 and 11 cross each other and are pivoted together by pivot pin 13.
In the present embodiment of the invention the cabinet A is provided with two doors, each door comprising a member 14 hinged to a sliding vertical support 15. l/Vhen door 14 is opened to the position illustrated at the right hand end of Figure 2, it may be bodily pushed back to the posishown in Figure 1, guides 16, 17 being employed to maintain the door and its supporting; member 15 in vertical position.
When the doors are opened one or more brackets 4 may be gripped by the hands and the brackets as a whole pulled forwardly so as to bring the articles held by the brackets into display position. Throughout their movement the brackets are carried by the supporting rods 6, 11 which in turn are carried by the members 5 and 10 secured to the rear wall of the cabinet. The rod 6at one side of the cabinet is secured to the corresponding rod at the other side of the cabinet by a rigid connecting bar 18. In like manner the rods 11 are connected and reinforced by a rigid bar.
Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent follows e--e 1. In a display rack, a plurality of horizontal arms, means for supporting said arms including,` a plurality of vertical bars, and sets of two bars directly pivoted to one another, one bar being pivotally connected at one end to one of said vertical bars and slidingly connected at the opposite end to a rigid support and the second bar being slidingly connected at one end to the said vertical bar and pivotally connected at the opposite end to arigid support.
2. A display rack constructed in aeeordance with olaiin l in which each horizontal moete? arm is slidingly mounted upon a horizontal rod Which in turn is carried by said vertical bars.
3. A display rack constructed in accordance With olaiin l in Which each horizontal arrn is connected to a doWnWar-dl inclined arni, the two forming a bracket, oth arins having apertured bosses and horizontal rods receiving said bosses, the horizontal rods being carried by said Vertical bars.
In testimony whereof, l have signed iny naine to this specification.
