Y 10 @ZZ @1f/mm it ma?! colmena:
Be it known that I,v (inonori lf. BREUN- wenn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey,` have invented a new and Improved Display Rack, of which the following is a full,` clear, and exact description. l
This invention relates to improvements in display racks, particularly to a device of this character primarily adapted for displaying newspapers, magazines or similar articles.
An object'ot the invention is to provide a display rack in which the use of spring arms for holding the articles displayed is practically done away with, and a rack which may be conveniently utilized for supporting a number of newspapers or magazines in such a position that the headlines of the papers or the names ot the magazines are all exposed to view.
A further object is to provide a display rack, in which the articles may be readily inserted and with equal facility removed, and a rack which will be simple and practical in construction, strong, durable and efiioent in use, neat and attractive in ape pearance, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture'.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts` as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my displa)7 rack;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view in front elevation` illustrating the manner in which a number ot magazines may be supported in the rack: and
Figure 3 is an edge view of Figure 2.
Referringr in detail to the drawings, I have used the reference numerals l` 1 to designate a pair of paralle'l nprights connected by suitable cross pieces 2 adjacent euch end and cooperating with the cross pieces to form a frame. This frame may either be leaned against a support. suspended from a support. or provided with foldin;r braces` the manner of' supporting the trame forming no part of this invention.
Upon the forward tace of the uprights 1. l mount a pair ot guide rods 3. said rods bc- Yshaped paper holding or rack member,
which exten-ds between the upper ends of the uprights 1 and is secured at eaoh end to the uprights by suitable securing devices such as 6. This rack member is of substantially U-shape and its arms 7 lie along the forward faces of the uprights 1, terminating.;r short of the upper ends of the guide rods 3'.
, At a po-int just above the upper ends of the guide rods, the arms 7 are bent forwardly and downwardly, as indicated at 8, and terminate in a pair of'spring arms 9, which eX- tend upwardly and rearwardly and cooperate with the forwardly bent portions 8 to' tomi a. seat or' rack for magazines, news papers, or similar articles.` It will be noted that in this uppermost rack member, spring arms are utilized to hold the papers.- In the renuiiningir rack members which I designate by the reference numeral 10, the use of springs is entirely done away with. Each of the rack members l0 is of Wire bent into substantially U-shpe, the intermediate portion o't'isaid members beingr uppermost and the arms of the U terminating in hoo-lied eX- tremit-ies 1l which are movable under the gt'lide rods 3 and embrace the nprights 1. Each arm of each member 10 is formed at its intermediate portion with an S bend, the forward loop of said bend providing a seat 14,- sirnilar to the seat 8, for a magmine or a newspaper and the rear loop 15 of the S providingr a point of attachment for a link 1Q suspended from the forward loop of the S bend in the next higher rack member. Links 13 suspended from the seats 8 are p-ivotalliY connected to the rear loops of the S bends oi' the arms of the next. lower rack member 1U. In similar manner all ot the remainingr rack members are suspended from each other. Those portions of the arms between the S bends and the hooked extremities 11 torni counter-balancin;r arms 16. which serve to retain the rack members swung inwardly against each other` as secu most clearly in Figure 1. These counter-balancineV arms do away with the necessity for the use of springs.
The manner of use of the device is as follows: IVhen it becomes desirable to insert a magazine or newspaper in one ot' the racks, the intermediate portion ot' the rack is graspelgl and pulled outwardly, the extremities ot' the arms of said rack sliding upu'ardly under the guide rods 3. A magazine or newspaper may then be inserted in the rack and when a plurality of such artieles are in the rack, as seen in Figures 2 and 3, the headlines or titles of earh article Will be displayed.
Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments ot' my invention, it will be apparent that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement ol1 the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set iorth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as Fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a device ot the character stated, a supporting Jframe. a plurality of Wire paper holders hingedly conneeted with each other for movement on said trame and guided in their movement by said trame, eaeh of said holders being sullstantialy U-shape With the intermediate portion oi the U uppermost, Isaid holders having leg portions, said legs being provided adjacent their center with substantially S-shaped bends, and links Connected to the bent portions of the adjacent holders.
2. In a device of the character stated, a supporting lrame, a plurality of wire paper holders hingedly connected with each other for movement on said trame and guided in their movement by said trame, each of said holders being formed in the shape of a U with leg portions, the intermediate portion of the U being disposed uppermost, said legs being provided adjacent their eenter with substantially S-sha pod bends` links eonneeted to the bent portions of the adjacent holders, the berls formed in said legs providing seats for the papers in the holders, said holders pivoting on the links.
I. ln a device ol' the character stated, a supporting frame. a plurality ot wire paper holders hingedly connected with each other I'ov movement on said frame, and guided in their movement by said frame. each of said holders being substantially U-shaped with the intermediate portion uppermost, said holders having leg portionssaid llegs being provided adjacent their` center with substantially S-shaped bends, links connected toV the bent portion ofthe adjacent holders, the bends formed in said legs providing seats for the paper in the holders, said holders pivoting on the links, and guide rods fixed to the frame, the legs of said holders terminating in hooked extremities movable along the guide rods.
4. In a display rack, a frame, a plurality of paper holders each comprisinoa single length of Wire of substantially U siape, said length of Wire having leg portions bent to torm paper-receiving seats, all of said holders pivotally connected to each other at opposite points intermediate the length of the legs, the other ends of said leg portions ex tending beyond the points ofeonneetion and acting as eounterbalaneing means tending to retain the holders against each other, the ends ot the legs being slidably connected to the frame.
5. In a display rack, a frame, a plurality of paper holders eaeh `comprisingr a single length of Wireof substantially U shape, said length of Wire having leg portions, said legs lient to provide paper-receiving seats, all ot said holders pivotally connected to each other at opposite points intermediate the length of the legs, and rails fixed to the trame, the outer ends of the legs ol said holders extending beyond the points of connection and acting as eounterbalancing arms to retain the holders folded against each other, the ends of the legs terminating in hooked structures slidable along the guide rails. i
6. As a new article of manufacture, a display rack, comprising a supporting frame,
a plurality of Wire paper holders suspended from the frame, said holders including integral countenbalancing arms normally re taining the holders folded inwardly against eaeh other.
7. As a new article of manufacture, a display rack comprising a supporting trame, a plurality ot Wire paper holders swingingly suspended on said frame, said holders including integral eounterbalaneing arms normally retaining the holders folded inwardly against eaeh other, and means secured to the. frame and engageable with the arms to guide the swinging movement of the holders.
