ABRAHAM STONE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSGNOR TO THE ROSETH COREORA- TION, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A CORPORATON OF NEW YORK.
GARIVIENT BAG.
Application filed June 12, 1926.
My invention relates toa new and improved 'form oi garment bag. n n
@ne ot the objects of my invention is to provide an improved form of side-opening garment bag which shall be dust-proof and moth-proof.
Another object of my invention is to de vise a bag of this type which shall bevery convenient to manipulate.
Another object of my invention is to provide a bag ot this type in combination with an improved torni of hanger.
Other objects of my invention will beset 'forth in the following description and drawings which illustrate apreterred embodi ment oitl my device, it being understood that the above general Statement of the objects of my invention is intended merely to generally explain the same and not to limit it in any manner.
-Fig. l is a iront elevation.
Fig, 2 is a detail view similar to Fig. l, the outer part of the bag being omitted to more clearly show the details of construction thereof.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
e is a transverse elevation showing how the bag is distended.
Figs. 5 and 6 are detail views of the hanger.
The bag l is provided with longitudinal edges 2 and The edge 3 is closed and the edge 2 is open, so that this bag is of the sideopening type. rlhe open edge 2 oi the bag may be provided with suitable closure members which are not illustrated herein, as they may be of any suitable type.
yl`he hanger tor the bag comprises a hook 9 which is swiveled to the top 5LL of a bent metal support 5 which is stamped outl oil any suitable resilient metal. The support 5 is located above the closed top of the bag, which is held between the depending arms of the support 5, One of the arms of support 5 is provided with tongues 8 which can be inserted through slits in the lower support 6 and through an opening .7 in the other arm of the upper support 5. The lower support 6, which is also made of a resilient metal stamping and has two arms, is thus connected to the upper support 5 and the tongues 8 can be bent upwardly as shown Serial No. 115,518.
in Fig. 6, so as to permanently connect the two supporting members of the hanger to each other. A spreading member l0 isconneoted to the lower support 6 by means oi a pin extension 1l which projects into the en lai-ged bottoni 6a oi the member 6, so that the member lO can be freely turned about a vertical axis. rhe hook 9 can also be ireely turned about a vertical axis independently ot the member 10.
As shown in Figs. 3 and il, the bag l is provided with a top having a strengthening flap et provided with inner extensions and the top of the bag is firmly clamped between the arms oi' support 5.
ll] hen the device is in the position shown in Fig. 3, the bag is in the flat or collapsed position. lllhen, however, the spreading member l0 is turned into the position shown in Fig. el, this spreads the bag which is suitably supported by the hook 9 from any suitable support, so that the garment which is mounted on a hanger can be readily thrust within the bag, and the hook of the garment hanger can be caused to engage the bottom of the spreading member l0, rllhe member l0 can now be turned into what may be termed the inoperative position shown in F ig. 3 and the open longitudinal edge Q ot the bag can then be suitably closed.
it is obvious that the above construction provides a very simple and eilicient ni 1' whereby a garment bag can be combined with a supporting hook and with a spreading member.
l. have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions could be made without departing Jfrom itsspirit.
l claim 1w' A moth-proof bagl open at the side and having a closed top, a lower rigid metal support located in and stitlening said closed top, an upper support having arms external to and embracingl the top ot the bag, said arms being connected to said inner support, a hooi; connected to said upper support, and a rigid loop-like spreader made of rigid material and swiveled to the bottom ot said lower rigid support.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
ABRAHAM STONE.
