Application Serial No. 190,501, iiled September 10, 1917,1oy Howard D. Colman,(Pat ent No. 1,544,055 dated June 30, 1925),- discloses a warping apparatus provided with an electric stop motion. The detectors are lmounted on the creel and are arranged to close electric contacts included in the warpercontrolling circuit. The creel comprises a plurality of bays adapted to receive removable yarn-mass-supporting devices. Each bay is provided at its outer side with a hinged gate on which the detectors are mounted, there being a detector for each cheese. The detectors for each vertical row of cheeses are mounted upon a support in the form of an upright square metallic tube. Associated with the detector are various thread-guiding plates which are secured to the metallic tube. The latter encloses an electric conductor with `which contact is made when a thread breaks or becomes unduly slack.
The object of the present invention is to simplify and cheapen the construction of the upright support upon which the detectors and thread-guiding plates are mounted and in which the before-mentioned electric conductor is enclosed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a fragmental front elevation of one hay of a creel embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section 'on line 2-2 of Fig.1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmental perspective view.
The particular embodiment herein shown of the invention is adapted to support yarn masses in the form of cheeses a. Each bay is arranged to support four vertical rows or columns of cheeses. the front of the bay is closed by means of a hinged gate 1.
The means for detecting exhaustion or excessive slackness of the yarn extending from the cheeses a to the warper (not shown) comprises detectors mounted upon the gate 1, there being a detector for each cheese. The detectors for each vertical row of cheeses are mounted upon an upright bar 2 forming part of the gate 1. As best shown in Fig. 2, each bar 2 consists of a wooden post 3 and a board 4 secured to one side of the post, the parts 3 and 4 forming an upright which is approximately square in crosssection. Preferably the rear and right-hand sides of the bar 2 are covered with sheet metal 5 secured in place in any suitable way.
Each detector consists of an arm 6 preferably formed of a piece of wire bent into the form of a loop so as to provide two parallel portions against which the thread bears. These parallel portions are bent so as to form 4notches 7 through which the thread may run.
The tension of the thread normally holds the arm 6 in contact with a stop rod 8 against the action of gravity. At the side toward which the arm 6 tends to fall are two plates 9 and 10 against the edges 11 of which the thread is carried by the arm 6 if the thread becomes slack. 12 is a guide plate which is parallel with the plates 9 and 10. The upper portions of the plates 9 and 12 are secured together by the stop rod 8. The arm 6 extends above the plates 10 and 12. In the warper-replenishing operation the thread passes into operative relation to the detector by moving upward along the curved edge 13 of the plate 12, the edge 13 serving to guide the thread into the notch 7 of the adjacent portion of the arm 6. The rounded end of the plate 10 allows the thread to spring over the upper end of said plate into contact with the sloping upper end of the arm 6, the thread being thus guided into the space between the arm 6 and the edges 11.
The plate 9 comprises an elongated base portion 14 of approximately the same width as the upright 2. The plate 10 has a hase flange 15 which is secured to the base portion 14 in a suitable way, as by electric welding. The plate 12 likewise has a base flange 16 which is secured to the base portion 14 by welding or in any other preferred way.
The detector arm 6 is provided with a pivot portion 17 which is mounted in a bearing 17 a in the base portion of the plate 9.
lt will be seen that the plates 9, 10 and 12 and the detector 6 constitute a unit which may be readily mounted upon the upright 2 by means of screws 18 or other suitable means.
vWhen a detector falls an electric circuit is closed by means to be now described. A contact arm 19 is attached to the pivot 17 of the arm 6 and is arranged to swing into contact with an electric conductor 20 eXtending longitudinally of and within the bar 2. It will be noted that the post 3 has a groove or channel 21 formed in its lett-hand side, seid groove extending 'from top to bottoni otI the ber and being closed by the board Ll. The conductor 2O is located within said groove.
The left-hend side of the post 3 is cut away Ito forni recesses 22 which communicate with the groove 2l, there being one recess for each thread-guiding end detecting` unit. The recess is large enough to receive the inwardly projecting portion of the bearing 17a and the contact erin 19, end is covered by the bese plete lil.
