N. J. AUGER SHADE BRACKET Filed April 30, 1925 flail/finger ATTC R NEY WITNESS:
Patented Get. 26, 1926.

SHADE BEACKE'I.
Application filed April 80, 1925.
This invention relates to improvements in expansible and adjustable shade bracket supports and contemplates the provision of a pair of flat strips, one sliding within the other. and each including a plurality oft spaced sockets arranged thereon and adapted to receive the usual and conventional term of shade bracket supports therein.
Another object of the invention is the pro-- vision o1 locking means arranged centrally of the length of the two sliding bars and adapted for rotation upon one of the bars and having rods extending from the opposite ends thereof and connected to the bars in order that rotations of the member will in turn move the rods inwardly and outwardly with respect and hold the same in rigid locked positions.
lVith the above and other objects in view. the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawing and point-ed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention shown applied to the upper portion or" a window frame.
Figure 2 is a similar view of my invention showing the manner in which the rods may he expanded.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the same and showing the manner in which a shade roller is support-ed thereon.
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view take on line -ll of F igure 2.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective of one of the rods and showing the manner in which a. shade bracket is supported thereon.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary top plan view of the locking means. 7
Figure 7 is a perspective of a detachable knob for the locking means.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates the upper portion of a window frame and to which the present invention is applied.
The invention residing in the provision of a pair of relatively flat bars 11 and 12 re spectively, the bar 11 having its edges bent inwardly and downwardly and in spaced relation with respect to the inner side thereof while the bar 12 has its edges bent over and lying flush with the rear side upon its inner Serial No. 27339.
end. These bars 11 and 12 are adapted to slide one upon the other; the bar 12 is adapted tor sliding movement upon the rear side of the bar 11 and between the bent edges thereof. The outer ends of these bars 11 and 12 are bent inwardly and include penetrating points thereon which are adapted to engage the outer sides of the window frame 10 in order to support the device thereon and in order to prevent further accidental displacement of my invention I provide a. pair of supports 14 which extend from the rear sides er the bars 11 and 12 and including upwardly extending end portions 1 1 which are received within thev bent edges of the bars while their upper ends are inwardly offset and include penetrating points there on which engage the upper sides of the window frame 10. The expansihle means is in the form 01 a disk 15 having strips 16 provided at diametrically opposite sides thereof and extending over the inwardly bent edges of the bar 11 and adapted for sliding movement thereon. A cross key 17 is pivotally mounted upon a stud bolt 18 or the like which extends outwardly from the face of the disk 15 and which has secured adjacent the opposite ends thereof a pair of rods 19 which in turn have their ends looped within any one oi a plurality of openings 20 provided in the strips 11 and 12. I also provide further locking means for the strips 11 and 12 in the :torm of cars 20 upon opposite sides of the intermediate portions of the key 17 and extending in oppositely disposed relations thereon and including lugs 21 upon their under sides which are adapted to be brought into selective engagement with openings 21 provided in the disk 15. p
In order to provide means adjacent the ends of the bars 11 and 12for supporting the shade brackets, as mentioned in the foregoing I provide a plurality of sockets in the form of cross section substantially V- shaped flanges 21 which are secured in spaced relation and at an inclination upon the outer sides of the bars 11 and 12. These flanges are adapted to receive the correspondingly shaped portions 22 which are provided upon the ends of shade brackets 23.
In order to provide means for supporting curtains, draperies and the like I provide elongated pole or rod supporting brackets 23' having correspondingly shaped inner end portions which are received within the lower end while prongs 19' extend clownwardly from the opposite corners thereof and receive the outer edges or the key 17 therein that the rods 10 will pull or throw the bars 11 and 12 inwardly and outwardly.
It is also to be noted that owing to the relative positions of: these cross section sub stantially "J-shaped flanges 21 arranged at spaced intervals and at inclinations with respect to the bars 11 and 12 that the ends 22 of the shade brackets 23 may be readily and easily inserted therein for supporting the shade roller 2%. Owing to the simple construction and novel arrangement of parts forming this invention it is noted that a very u; i ul and advantageous shade bracket is promdcd which may be readily and easily attached to a window frame without marring or defacing the same in any way whatsoever.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what is claimed is:
1. A shade bracket of the character described comprising a pair oi? bars adapted for sliding movement one upon the other and having their respective ends bent inwardly with securing means thereon, a disk having a pair of strips extending at diametrically opposite sides thereoi and bent ore and upon one of the bars, a cross key pivotally mounted upon the outer side of the disk, a pair of rods having their inner ends secured adjacent the outer ends of the cross key and their opposite and outer ends secured to the bars, and shade roller supports having their end portions arranged upon the outer ends of the slidable bars.
2. A shade bracket of the character described comprising a pair of bars adapted for sliding movement one upon the other and having their respective ends bent inwardly with securing means thereon, an apertured disk having a pair of strips extending at diametrically opposite sides thereof and bent over and upon one of the bars, a cross key pivotally mounted upon the outer side of the disk, ears carried upon the opposite sides of the intermediate portions of the cross key and including lugs upon their under sides adapted to be brought into selective engagement with the apertured disk, a knob having a plate secured to its inner end which includes downwardly extending prongs upon its corner to r ceive the cross key therein, a pair of rods having their inner ends secured adjacent the outer ends 01" the cross key and their opposite and outer ends secured to the bars, and shade roller supports having their end per-- tions arranged upon the slidabl-o bars.
In testimony whereof l aiiix my signature.
