PAPER BOX.
Application filed September 5, 1925. Serial No. 54,611.
This invention relates to improvements in paper boxes and the object of the invention is to provide a display box for use in connection with hosiery.
Boxes of this general character have been used heretofore, in which the interior portion, that is, the portion that goes to make up the so-called frogs, is made in a single piece, such a construction for instance as is disclosed in Letters Patent No. 1,202,141, issued to me October 24th, 1916, and in my earlier patent of September 15th, 1914, No. 1,110,853.
This present invention contemplates the construction of a hosiery containing and display box, comprising the box portion and the end and side frogs, all made of a single piece of paper, formed with interlocking members, and folded into position as disclosed in the accompanying drawings and set forth in the following specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the paper blank, disclosing the lines along which it is to be folded and showing the interlocking flaps and receiving slots.
Figure 2 is a plan View of the complete box, folded and ready to receive the goods.
Figure 3, is a central longitudinal sectional view taken through line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken through line 4-4 of Figure 2, showing the formation of one of the side frogs when folded.
The numeral 80 represents the body of the blank from which the complete box is to be made. This blank comprises a main portion A which forms the bottom of the completed box, and a plurality of foldable members attached thereto at both ends and both ides.
The formation of the box, from the blank as disclosed in Figure 1, is as follows The side members 21 are folded up at right angles to the base A, and the end portions E are then folded towards each other and interlocked by engaging the registering slots therein, thus forming the up.- right side and end walls. The part B is folded up and the portion 0' is folded down, over the locked end E, bringing the part 7 to a vertical position and thefia 2 will be passed into the slot 2 in part bringing the part 5 into position to lie parallel with the base A and to form the top surface of the end frog. The parts 8 are then bent down to form the side walls of the end frog, and the ends 1, are bent at right angles to the walls and lie against the face of A. This completes the formation of the end frog.
The upper side of the blank, as it lies in Figure 1, is then folded to form one of the side frogs. The part 30 is folded down against 21 and 32 will be folded to lie flat on the face of A. Part 31 is folded against 30; 34 is folded at right angles to 31, and the flap 52 is passed into the'slot 9; 35 and 36 are both folded down, with the projection 60, on the end of 35, lying back of 36, to form a lock, and the ends 37, are folded to lie flat on the surface of A.
To form the frog on the opposite or lower side of the blank, as it lies in Figure 1, after 21 has been folded as described, the part 30 is bent to lie against 21, and the part 20 will lie flat on the surface of A. The parts 31, 34, 35, 36 and 37 will be folded as are those on the opposite described side. The flaps 38 on the ends of 36, will enter the slots 39 in the part 30 and form a lock therefor, while the end flaps 40, on the parts 35, will be folded inwardly and rest against the ends E.
The other end formation is accomplished by folding the part 14 up at right angles to the base A and the flaps 15 are slipped beneath the parts 34, which latter form the upper surfaces of the side frogs. The part 13 is then folded down, inside and against the parts 40, which forms a lock for both side frogs, and brings the part 10 flat against the surface of A. The extremity of 10 is formed with a central flap 115 which will pass through the slot 11 in part 20, and with two smaller flaps 12 which will rest upon the surface of A and reach beyond the point of the slot 11.
This will complete the structure, which as stated, is a complete hosiery containing and display box, with frog formation at one end and both sides, and formed of a sin is piece of paper.
aving thus described the construction, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is r A box blank comprising a single sheet of paper, having a base member, two side members each comprising two portions foldable upon each other to form side walls of double thickness, extensions on the side members adjacent one end of the blank, comprising and one end member having an extension portions foldable to form frogs; a tongue thereon and provided with a locking tongue on one of said extensions adapted to enter for engagement with said slot, said side and 10 a slot in the double Wall; flaps on the ends end extensions forming a complete cover of the extensions resting on the base memfor the base member.
her; one of said side members having an In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature. extension thereon and formed With a slot 7 7 WILLIAM WOLFE.
