' J. ROSMAN covERLET Fon INFANTS Filed June 1. 1926 nvewboz @avm Patented Oct. 12, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
COVERLET FOR INFANTS.
Application filed June 1, 1926. Serial No. 112,803.
'Ihe object of my invention is to afford simple but effective means for the adequate covering and protection of an infant when in a recumbent position, as when laid to rest on a cushion or mattress in a baby carriage, crib, or analogous support; and to this end the inventign consists, essentially, in the specific unitary construction and combination of component parts described and claimed, comprising integrally connected cushion or mattress spread, pillow pocket, and cover and veil flaps all arranged and fuctioning as a coverlet of the character designated, substantially as hereinafter setv forth.
In the accompanying drawings I illustrate a practical embodiment of the essential features of my invention although I do not limit myself to the identical form and configuration of parts shown herein by way of exemplification, since changes may be resorted to in minor deails of construction with like results, and without departing from the spirit and intent yof my invention in this respect.
W'ith this understanding Fig. l, represents a perspective view of my protective coverlet with the flaps folded, the veil flap of mosquito netting being broken away in part for convenience of illustration Fig. 2, is a perspective view of my infant coverlet as unfolded and ready for use;
Fig. 3, is a sectional elevation in detail, V taken upon plane of line 3-3, Fig. 2.
The basic portion of my Coverlet, considered in a unitary sense, may, for convenience, be named the spread sheet S, as it is intended to be superposed directly upon a cushion or mattress as hereinbefore intimated.
The spread sheet S, is formed with a pocket P, for the recept-ion of a pillow P', as shown. more particularly in Fig. 3, and indicated by dotted lines in Figs. l and 2, of the drawings. Provision is made for closing the pocket P, by snap fastenings 7J, or equivalent means.
A veil flap V, of mosquito netting or equivalent flexible intersticed material, is attached to the upper portion of the spread sheet S, for use upon occasion. lVhen not required for immediate use the veil flap V,
may be folded and tucked into the pillow Y pocket P, or underneath be preferred.
One or more longitudinal body wrap flaps W, are permanently attached to the spread sheet S, one on each side thereof, by preference, as shown, although it is obvious that a single body wrap flap IV, of sufficient Width would answer the purpose as a main covering for an infant resting on the spread sheet S, the latter being also provided with a foot wrap flap F. Y
It is to be understood that the spread sheet S, and its attached flaps W, I", may be made of flannel or other suitable washable textile fabric, which, with the veil flap V, lnay be cleansed by immersion after the removal of the pillow P', from the pocket P.
The practical advantages afforded by my specific construction of infant coverlet are obvious. Being unitary in character, the component parts cannot be lost, mislaid, or disarranged and insure positive wrapping means adapted to all and varying requirements of practical use.
the latter, as may IVhat. I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improvedarticle of manufacture, an infant coverlet of the character designated, consisting of a unitary structure comprising a basic spread sheet, a pillow pocket flap permanently attached at its lower edge to the under side thereof, snap fastenimqsV for detachably securing the outer edge of said pillow pocket flap to the adjacent edge of said spread sheet, a veil flap integrally connected to the outer edge of said pillow pocket flap, and a foot wrap flap and side wrap flaps integrally connected with the upper side of said basic spread sheet, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
