Application fll ed August 1a, 1923'. Serial No. 657,190.
This invention relates to poultry brooders and it consistsin the novel features hereinafter described and claimed. Anobject of the invention is to provide a brooder having a hover chamber with a heater located therein and means for regulating the heater whereby the interior of the hoveris kept at a desired degree of temper ature. 1
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the brooder with a portion of thewall of they hover chamber broken away.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the brooder. Figure 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view thereof. p
- Figure 4 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view out on the line 4-4 of Figure 3. Figure 5 is a similar sectional view out on the line 55 of Figure 3, and
Figure 6 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through the lower portion of the'heater of the brooder.
The brooder includes a heater body 1 which is closed at its upper endby a'cover- 5 having a handle 6. A fire box 2 is lo-- cated in the lower portion of the heater body 1 and a grate 3 is located therein and ash pit 4 is provided below the grate. The grate is supported upon a frame 3 which is connectedwith ,a shooter member 8 and the shooter member is connected with a handle member 8 which passes through the sides of the ash pit. The ash pit is provided with a door 7. A flue pipe 9 connects with the interior of the heater body 1 through the sides thereof-and a smoke pipe 10 is mounted upon the flue pipe. The end of the flue pipe9 is normally closed by the 'cap 11. The flue pipe 9 is provided-at its upper side with tubular extension 12 over which is located a damper 13..
" The hover chamber includes a top wall.
14 having a central opening 15 which receives the bodyl of the heater. The plate 1 1 is provided with a downwardly disposed periphery of flange 16 to which is attached a curtain 17. Suitable brace rods or members v18 are disposed between the plates 14 and the upper portion of the heater body 1. The smoke pipe 10 hereinbefore mentioned passes through an opening 19 provided in the plate 14.
An angularly shaped pipe 20 passes through the sections of the fire box and the heater body at a point below the grate 3. An arm 22 is mounted upon the pipe 20 and an ,L-shaped arm 21 is .pivotally connected with the arm 22 and lies under the same or in the same vertical plane. Thermostat devices and24= are interposed between the arms 21 and 22. A second L-shaped arm 26 is mounted upon the arm 21 and passes through the arm 22 as best shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. A valve 25 is adjustably mounted upon the arm 26 and is disposed above the .upper or outer end of the pipe 20. The
What is claimed is:
A device of the class described, the combination with a heater and a chamber surrounding the. same; of an air inlet pipe mounted in the lower portion of said heater below the fire box and having its outer end disposed within said chamber, and means for automatically controlling the flow of air to said pipe, comprising an arm projecting laterally from the outer end-of said pipe, an additional L-shaped arm pivotally secured at one end to the outer end of the first-mentioned arm and arranged in the same vertical plane of the latter 'therebelow, complementary thermostatic elements carried by said adjustably supported on the outer end of the l .-shaped projection and disposed above the outer end of said pipe to open and close the latter, a flue pipe projecting laterally I from said heater and disposed Within said chamber, a damper arranged in the length of said flue pipe, and an adjustable rod connecting said damper with the aforesaid L- shaped arm as and for the purposes described.
