BOND-WIRE HOLDER AND PROTECTOR.

Mv invention relates to bond-wire holders a bond-wire holder which is inexpensive to nmmitacture and easy to place upon the wire and whichsupports the wire from displacemeut laterally in any direction.
Further purposes will appear in the specification and in the claims.
I have preferred to illustrate my invention by but two forms, selecting forms that well illustrate the principles involved and -which moreover have been found well adapted to the needs of service.
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively a broken plan and an elevation of two bonded rails supplied with my holders for maintaining the bond-wire in place.'
Figure 3 is a section through the line of Figue 2.
Figure, 4 is a "perspective view of the holder used in Figures 1 to 3.
Figure 5 is a section view similar to that of Figure 3 but with the holder modified to accommodate a different relation with the fish-plate.
Figure 6 is a perspective View of the modilied form of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a broken section to illustrate one way of connecting my holder to the fish-plate.
Describing in illustration and not in limitation and referring to the drawings man, has in many having Prior to my present invention bond-wire holders have not themselves laterally sup ported bond-wires in all directions, but have depended upon one side for engagement with a co-operating fish-plate to prevent lateral displacement in that direction. This dependence for the co-operation of the fishplate has not been wholly satisfactory in that accidental distortion of the holder, as by a blow from a pick of a careless workinstances either left the hold insecure or actually torn it loose. It is to overcome this fault that I have devised my present invention whereby any ordinary accidental distortion of the holder will still leave the bond-wires securely locked to the holder laterally in all directions.
In the drawings the rails 10 and 11 united by fish-plates 12 and 13 and track bolts 14 are bonded electrically by bond-wires 15 their ends respectively penetrating and plugged to the rails at 16.
In their passage from rail to rail the bond-wires are led along the top of the fish-plate to be well out of the way of the picks of workmen and held there by my holder 17 with lateral support from the holder itself in every direction. The holder which is made of sheet metal is held in place by the head 18 of the track bolt 14.
The holder is provided with prongs 19 and 20 relatively spaced at 21 to pass the wires, when held temporarily transverse thereto (i. e., when canted laterally) and these prongs pass in reverse directions about the wires so as together to include the wires when in holding position, thereby affording lateral support to the wires in all directions,
irrespective of the proximity of the fishplate, and of accidental distortion.
The body of the holder and the inner of prongs (the one toward the fish-plate) are bent into accommodation with the fishplate; thus in Figures 1 to 8 where the wires are led along the top of the fish-plate these accommodating bends take the form shown in Figure 4 at 22, 22, while in Figure 5 where the wires are led along the top of the bottom flange the accommodating bends are p as shown at 23, 23 in Figures 5 and 6.
A perforation 24 for use in securing the holder to the fish-plate is likewise accom modated to existing need. Usually it is an 'oval adapted to fit the oval shank of the track bolt, and this oval is either open as in Figure l, for sliding on or ofi without taking out the track bolt or closed as at 24. in Figure 6. Sometimes the track bolt is not used to secure the holder which is then held in place by a plug 25 as shown in Figure 7 and in this event the hole 24 is adapted to lit the plug. Evidently these minor modifications are all such as do not affect the broad invention.
In view of my invention and disclosure modifications and variations to meet individual whim or particular need will doubtless become evident to others skilled in the art and I claim all such modifications and variations in so far as they fall within the reasonable spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim. as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device for use with electrically bonded rails, a bond wire and a sheet metal holder for the bond wire having one end bifurcated, the metal at the bifurcation being spaced longitudinally of the rail and in planes perpendicularly thereto to provide tor insertion of the: bond wire through the bifurcation and its retention against movement in opposite directions by the ends adjacent the bifurcation.
