Description

Sept. 21 1926. 1,600,687l
C. MANTZ NOVELTY CONFECTION BOX Filed May 24, 1924 released Sear.' 21, laas.
u rrr s'rars NOVELTY conrncrron Box.
Application filed May 24,
This invention relates to novelty confection boxes and aims'generally to improve boxes of this kind in a manner set forth in the following specification.
lReferring to the drawings, wherein is shown a single embodiment of my invention selected merely for illustrative purposes;
Figure l is aside elevation of my improved box serving as a base for a novelty fixture suchv as a miniature tree;
Fig. 2 is a plan view partly in section 0f m kimproved box;
ig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
,Fig 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view similar to Fig. 3, showing the center opening closed by a cap or button.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown my box as formed of a top l, base 2 and a plurality of division partitions or plates 3 rigidly secured together. Preferably the box is of cylindrical form and the partitions 3 extend radially from near the center thereof to provide an` an-V nular series of segmented chambers to receive drawers, but the particular shape of V the box is not essential, as other shapes, such as polygonal boxes, may be used with equal facility. 'Ihe inner ends vof the partitions 3 terminate short of the center of the box, and, in theembodimcnt shown, are formed with, or are rigidly connected with, a vertical tube 4 to provide a central well open' Ving through the top l but closed by the bottom 2. A suitable closure such as the button or cap 5, is preferably provided to close the upper end of the tube 4.
' The improved box is provided with drawer section 6, which may be of segmental form and arranged in an annular series between the top land bottom 2, each drawer being held in place by frictional engagement of the sides thereof with the partitions 3. The drawers 6 may be removed edgewise in a radial direction from the chambers formed by the top l, base 2, and partitions 3. For convenience in removing the drawers from the box, I have provided each of the drawers with a handle 7.
My improved box is adapted to be used as a base in combination with a small decorative device, for example, a miniature tree,
electric candle, figure of Santa Claus o1" other novelty fixture of ornamental design. For this purpose I provide in the lower part of the Well formed by the tube 4, a

resilient holder 9 adapted to surround and support the stem of any desired Vnovelty fixture, that illustrated being a miniature tree.
OneV or more of the drawers 6 and" tube 4 maybe formed with apertures 10 and 1l respectively (see Fig. 3) to `accommodate an electric wire l2 connecting a suitable bat` tery l2a (shown in dotted lines Fig. 2) with a series of electric lights 13 on the tree 8.
v When the fixture is not used in combination with the box, the upper end of the well formed by the tubev 4 may be closed by the cap or closure 5 or other means advantageously held fixedly in position by engages ment with the resilient holder 9.
Preferably my improved box is covered with an ornamental paper or fabric 14 (see Fig. 4), such as silk or satin, although it is t( be understood that such covering may be supplied or omitted to meet the demands of the trade. e
Obviously, my invention is not confined the details shown and described.
Vhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l.. A combination container and decora-- tive fixture comprising a box having top and base portions and radial partitions rigidly connected together, constituting a pedestal, said partitions terminating short of the center of the box thereby to provide a deep central well coextensive in height with said box, a plurality of radial drawer sections arranged within said box and having their ends contiguous to the edges of the top and base portions, said ends constituting the sides of the box, the top of the box being formed with an opening to provide access to said central well and adapted to be closed by a closure cap or the stem of a decorative fixture.
2. A box having top and base portions and radial partitions rigidly connected together, a plurality of drawer sections arranged within said box and bodily removable therefrom, said drawers lbeing adapted in height and width to t between said radial partitions and to form a substantially continuous peripheral wall for said box coextensive in height with the sides thereof, the top portion of said box being'provided with an opening to provide adeep central well closed by the base portion and adapted to receive a closurecap or thestem of a the center, a vertical' tube providing a deepcentral Well connected to the 'inner endsof said partitions, and a plurality of drawer sections arranged Within. said boxand having their outer ends contiguous tothe edges theY side Walls thereof, the top portion of said box being formed With en opening to provide access to said central Well and adapted to be closed by a closure cap or the stem of ftdecorative fixture.
In testimony whereof, I haveY signed my name to, this speciioatiou'.
