' Thisjinvention relates to machinery for thev treatment of textiles or the like, or more especially to dyeing machinery of the type employng a drum receiver mounted for rotation within the dyeing liquor.
It is an object of the invention to provide ff'anvimproved mechanism of the class mentioned wherein the drum receiver or reel f for the textile may be lowered or raised so as to be immersed in the liquor or to assume an elevated position so the textile goods may be readily loaded into or removed from the receiving drum.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved mechanism of the class mentioned with a simple and satisfactory' mechanism of improved design for operat- 1ng the receiving drum With equal facility in either raised or lowered position.
A further object is to provide an ima proved hoisting mechanism for raising and lowering the receiver, being operated at will by coaction with the drive for the receiver.
Still another object is to provide an improved mechanism of the class mentioned which, while being durable and eiicient iii f operation, is-simple and inexpensive in construction, bein arran ed to facilitate loading of the goo s into t e receiver or removal therefrom.
Other objects will be in part obvious in connection with the following detailed description of an illustrative but preferred embodiment of the invention, and will be in part pointed out therein.
The invention accordingly comprises the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplified 1n the`construction here inafter set forth and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the daims.

This receiver as shown in the embodiment of thel l drawings preferably takes the form of a cylindrical drum mounted for rotation, preferably oscillatory rotary movement. The drum is also preferably constructed of non-corrodible sheet metal, and it may be divided into a plurality of interior compartments so as to separate the oods into distinct lots, and facilitate hand ing andtreatvment thereof. For this purpose, a partition 26 extends across the interior dividing it as shown into two separate compartments each of which is provided with a doorway with a closure 27 therefor. The drum is mounted in the tankby means of a swinging supporting frame structure including spaced swinging triangular brackets 28 disposed at either end 'of the drum and mounted for swinging movement about one apex on a shaft 29 suitably' mounted in bearings 30 on the tank frame. The drum 25 is mounted on the free or swinging ends or apices of the brackets 28 by means of a drum shaft 31 extending through the drum and projecting beyond the ends thereof to provide supporting trunnions engaging the brackets. Referring particularly toFig. 4, it will thus be seen that the receiver drum may be swung upwardlyto elevated osition as shown in full lines, or downwar ly for rotation within the liquor as shown in broken lines.
For raising and lcwerinoP the drum. a hoisting mechanism is provided cooperating to swing the end bracket upwiardly and downwardly about the shaft 29 as a center. As shown in the drawing the preferred embodiment of the hoisting mechanism includes links 32 connected at their lowered ends to the brackets 28 and at their upper ends to cranks 33 secured to a rotary hoisting shaft 34 mounted in brackets 35 carried by the frame. A worm wheel 36 is fixed on the shaft 34, being preferably enclosed within a housing 36a and driven by a worm 37 on a shaft 38 driven in turn by a chain belt 39 from a sprocket wheel fixed on a shaft 40.v The shaft 4() is arranged to be driven from a power shaft 41 through spur gears 42 and a clutch mechanism 43 arranged or manual control by a hand lever 44 so the shaft 40 may be coupled or unco-upled at will with the shaft 41. 1
Mechanism is provided for imparting to the receiver drum an agitating movement so as to facilitate through treatment of the brous material, and for other purposes apgearing hereinafter. This movement may e one of rotation but, for insuring a more thorough treatment and penetration of the fibers, a mechanism for effecting an oscillatoryrotary movement is preferably provided. According to the herein disclosed embodiment, the drive embodies an electric motor M connected vthrough spur gears 45 to the power shaft 41 and being controlled for reversal of rotation at intervals by an automatic reversing switch 46 connected for operation from the power shaft 41 through a series of spur gears 47 connected for rotation of the switch shaft 48.
A pair of meshing bevel gears 49 connects Y the power shafts 29 'and 41, and another bevel gear 50 isiixed on the shaft 29 meshlng with a similar gear fordriving a worm shaft 51 carrying a worm 52 meshing with a worm wheel 52a mounted on a shaft 53 extending parallel to the axis of the drum. The worm shaft 51 is supported and enclosed by a combination bracing member and housing 54 extending between shafts 29 and 53 and supported at opposite ends by these shafts. A spur gear 55 is mounted on the shaft 53 meshing with a large drum gear 56 mounted in fixed position at one end of the drum. It will be observed that the shafts 51 and 53 are mounted upon the swinging brackets 28 for movement therewith while the pivotal drive shaft 29 is mountedy at the center of oscillation of the brackets and drum.
The operation of the improved mechanism, which will be understood in view of the foregoing disclosure, may be summarized as follows:
The automatic reversing switch 46 operates to change the motor connections at intervals to intermittently reverse the motor M, thus transmitting oscillatory movement through the intermediate power transmission connections to the receiving drum 25. Due tothe fact that the drum with its supporting frame is mounted for pivotal movement about the pivotal power shaft 29, it will be observed that the driving mechanism operates with equal facility to rotate the drum in raised, lowered or intermediate position. This is a distinct advantage since treatment of the material may be varied by immersing the drum at different, depths in the dyeing liquor, or the drum may be operated when elevated to alposition entirely above the liquor effecting among other advantages the drainage of the liquor from the material, and permitting the adjustment of the drum to bring the various compartments into position adjacent the door 20 for loading or unloading the contents of the drum. The drum may also remain in elevated position when loaded with material when for any reason it is desired to keep it for a greater or less period of time from contact with the liquor.
When it is desired to raise or lower the receiving drum when the motor is in operation, it is only necessary to throw the clutch mechanism 43 into mesh by operation of the hand lever 44 when operation of the lifting cranks 33 will be effected through the worm gear 36 and the other connections described. The drum may thus be positioned at any degree ofelevation by throwing out the clutch 43 atthe proper time, the drum being then supported in such position through the irreversible mechanism provided by the worm wheel 36 and worm 37.
When the receiving drum is in elevated position and one of the drum doors 27 lies effected. When the parts are in this position, the doors 20 and 27 are opened and the loading apron 24 swung inwardly to the position shown in broken lines in Fig. 4 where it forms in effect a continuation ot' the interior drum partition 26, whereupon unloading of the material by sliding it over the partition and apron will be a simple matter. The apron aids in a similar manner in load-k ing the drum. It will be understood that the drum may be adjusted to the correct loading and unloading position (Fig. -l) by stopping the motor M at the proper point. The switch 46 may be conveniently arranged for Ashutting off the motor, and may be employed for jogging the motor to drum to the position desired.'
Since the receiving drum may be raised at will by the simple manual operation' of throwing in the clutch 43, it will be seen that any change to the condition of the dye bath is greatly facilitated should this become at any time necessary or desirable. For example it often becomes necessary i-n the treatment of textiles to replenish the liquor or to add more coloring matter to bring the goods up to shade. Furthermore, it is often desirable to bring the treating liquor to a given temperature, such for example as to assure proper solution of the dye in the liquid before immersion of the drum and its contents in the dyeing liquor, this operation being readily accomplished by means of the mechansm described. If boiling of the liquor is indicated this may be done with the drum suspended above the liquor, thus avoiding agitation of the goods under treatment or other damage thereto.
Since certain changes may be made in the above construction and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that allmatter contained in the above description or shown in the acc0m.
panying drawing shall be interpret-ed as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a machine for treatment of textiles, in combination, a tank for the treating liquor, a receiver mounted `for rotation on a horizontal axis within said tank, means for rotating said receiver, and means connected for operation by said rotating means for lifting the receiver in a plane transverse t0 said axis from the treating liquor.

In a machine for treatment of textiles, in combination, a tank for the treating bring the liquor, a receiver mounted for rotation on a horizontal axis within said tank, means for rotating said receiver, and' means connected for operaton by` said rotating means for lifting the receiver in a plane transverse to said axis from the treating liquor, said rotating means being also connected for rotating raid receiver when in raised pos'tion.
3. In a machine for treatment of textiles, in combination, a tank Vfor the treating liquor, a receiver mounted Vfor rotation within said tank, means for rotating said receiver, means connected for operation by said rotating means for lifting the receiver from the treating liquor, and a manually controlled clutch mechanism for connecting and disconnecting said lifting means.
4. In a machine for treatment oftextiles, in combination, a tank for the treating liquor, a. receiver mounted for rotation within'said tank, means for rotating said receiver, means connected for operation by said rotating means for lifting the receiver from the treating liquor, .sa-id rotating means being also connected for rotating said receiver when in raised position, and a manually controlled clutch mechanism for connecting or disconnecting said lifting means.
5. In a machine for treatment of teittiles,
in combination, a tank liquor, a receiver having an opening and being mounted for rotation for the treatingmeans for rotating said receiver, means connected for operation by said rotating means for lifting said drum from the liquor, and l an apron mounted on the machine for move-- ment into position to communicate with the" receiver opening to forni a loading 01 unloading support for the goods.
6. In a machine for treatment of textiles,l
inv combination, a tank for the treating liquor, a receiver having an opening and being mounted for rotation within said tank, an interior partition for dividing the receiver into compartments, means for rotating said receiver, means connected for operation by said rotating means for lifting said receiver from the liquor, and an apron mounted on the machine for movement into position to communicate with said receiver opening to form a loading or unloading support for the goods and when in supporting position forming substantially a continuation of the receiver partition.
7. In a machine for treatment of textiles, in combination, a tank for the treating liquor, a receiver drum mounted for rotation Within said tank, swinging supporting members disposed at hoth ends of said receiver drum and connected thereto for rotatably supporting the saine, said supportn ing members being pivotally connected to said tank and swingable to direct said receiver drum from operative position within the tank into elevated loading and liquor, a receiver drum mounted for rotation within said tank, swinging supporting members disposed at both ends of said receiver drum and connected thereto for rotatably supporting the same, said supporting members being pivotally connected to said tank and swingable to direct said receiver drum' from operative position within the tank into elevated loading and.

In a machine for treatment of textiles, in combination, a tank for the treating liquor, a receiver drum mounted for rotation within said tank and being divided into a plurality of interior receiving compartments, swinging supporting members disposed at both ends of said receiver drum and connected thereto for rotatably supporting the same, said supporting members being pivotally connected to said tank and being swingable to direct said receiver drum from operative position within said tank into elevated loading and unloading` position, power driving hoisting mechanism including a hoisting link cioiinectedto one of said swingable supporting members for raising said receiver drum to elevated position and holding it in elevated loading and unloading position, and driving mechanism for operating said receiver drum both in lowered position within the tank and in elevated loading and unloading position to bring the different compartments thereof into loading and unloading position, and an apron mounted on said machine and being movable to and from position forming a loading and unloading bridge between said ytank and said receiver drum when the latter is in elevated position.

Ina machine for treatment of textiles, in combination, a tank for the treating liquor having a supporting frame and an elevated doorway leading thereinto, a receiver mounted for movement within the liquorl` and having a doorway, an aproii mounted adjacent the tank doorway and being movable to communicate with the receiver doorway to form a loading and unloading support, and a lifting mechanism in combination, a tank for adjacent the tank doorway and being movable tocommunicate with the receiver doorway to form a loading and unloading sup' port, a lifting, mechanism for lifting the receiver into position so its doorway may assume a position in juxtaposition to the elevated doorway of the tank, and a partition dividing the receiver into compartments, `and forming substantially a continuation of Vthe supporting apron when the latter is in 25* supporting position.
