Application filed February 23, 1924. vSerial No. 694,593.
This invention relates to bed springs, and especially to an adjustable supporting bracket therefor.
The object of the present invention is togenerally improve and simplify the construction and operation of brackets ot the character described, and particularly to provide a bracket which is vertically adjustable to elevate or lower the spring with relation to the bed frame, and which is also laterally adjustable to take care of bed frames of various Widths. Y
One form which my invention may assume is exemplified in the Jfollowing description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichf Fig. 1 is a sectional view showing two posi' tions of the bed spring supporting brackets. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing another view of the supporting brackets.
Practically all bed springs in use whether coil or fabric springs, are carried by an angle iron frame or the like such as indicated at A. Such frames consist of side rails 2 and end rails 3, the side rails 2 and end rails 3 supporting the springs whether they be coil springs or otherwise. A bed spring ot this character when placed between the side sections of a bed does not always assume the desired elevation, and it does not always tit as the beds vary slightly in length and width. The present invention bracket which is laterally and vertically adjustable. It consists of a piece of strap iron bent to form a iat section 4, a rightangular section 5, and a supporting foot or lug 6. There are four brackets employed and the side rails 2 of the spring supporting frame are slotted adjacent each corner as indicated at 7 to receive the brackets. The side rails are also provided with angle iron brackets such has indicated at 9, which are secured to the underside of the rails by rivets 8 or the like. The anglek iron brackets arey furthermore slotted as indicated at 10 to permit the fiat section 4 of each supporting bracket to pass therethrough. A clamp screw l1 is also employed in connection with each angle bracket to permit lateral adjustf ment of the supporting brackets, and also to secure the same when in place.
It the supporting brackets assume the full line position shown in Fig. l, the bed spring today,
shows a supporting y their longitudinal axes so that they will assume the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1,.the bed' spring will be lowered to assume its lowermost position. By'again removing the brackets and reversing their position end for end as shown in Fig. 2, an intermediate elevated position may be assumed and the outer end 2". of rthe lfiat sec.n tion 4 will then engagethe side sections of the bed. The sidejsections of the bed are indicated at B and are usually provided with a foot ledge C upon which the supporting lugs or brackets rest.
The supporting brackets here shown permit adjustment, as far as elevation is concerned, and as they are slidably mounted in the slots 7 and -lO lateral adjustment is also permitted,l -thus taking care of beds of various widths. f l Y The slotting of the frame and the langle brackets at the points indicated at 7' and 10 does not weakenv the structure as the metal removed is amply taken care of'by reinforcing action of: the angle brackets. The clamping screws only serve one function, to-wit, that of securing the brackets when adjusted. No strainl or load is transmitted to the screws and ydanger of jamming or bending of the screws, or stripping o the threads is thus obviated. v
The brackets are readily applied to practically any form of spring supporting trame.v
manufacturer may dictate or various uses may demand.
lHaving thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to ysecureby Letters Patent isc The combinationV with a spring supporting frame consisting of connected end vand side rails and the side rails having slots formed therein adjacent each end, of a pair vor.
of slotted anglebrackets secured in each side,
rail in alignment With the slots in the side rails, a clamp screw carried by each angle bracket, vsupporting brackets extending through the slot-ted side rails brackets and adapted to be engaged and secured by the clamping screws, said supand angle porting brackets comprsinga straight main section and a bent offset foot extension, said brackets being reversible about their longi- 10 .GEORGE A.
