NITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH B. TITUS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND J UHN MOLEAN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-SETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 159.979, dated February 16, 1875 application filed January 18, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSIAH B. TITUs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Saw-Set, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to the construction of implements for setting saws; and it consists in a sliding jaw-piece in a slotted frame or plate having a bridge which supports an adjusting-screw, the construction and arrangement being as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a side view and Fig. 2 is a crosssection of Fig. 1, on the line at x.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a plate of frame, of a length suitable to allow of a good lever-purchase, and onefourth (more or less) of an inch in thickness. This plate may be slotted, or forged with an opening, B. C is a bridge which terminates the opening B. D is another opening, which commences on the other side of the bridge and terminates at the point E. F is a slide, which is confined in this opening by grooves on its edges and V-shaped inner edges of the opening, or the slide may be confined in any other suitable manner. This opening D is cut out on one side, as seen at H. I is a screw, by which the slide is moved back and fort-h. This screw is confined in the bridge by collars J J, the outer of which is milled for convenience in turning. The screw turns freely in the bridge and. moves the slide, so that the jaw K can be adjusted to suit the thickness of the saw.
Either of the openings 0 0 may be used for setting saws, but ordinarily the outer one 0 will be employed.
This saw-set is very simple and very durable and cheap, and is readily adjusted to thin or thick saws.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the plate or frame A, having interior openings B D E, lateral opening H, and bridge 0, of the slide F, having jaw K and the screw I, all constructed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JOSIAH B. TITUS. Witnesses:
