applicationlledfebruary 2&{19253 Serial-No. 89,671, andi nFrance February 28,-".1925?.
This inventions relates to improvements in reeling or Winding" machines.
leeling. or Winding;` is `still. often ydone Aby hand, the operator mounted on the trame givingthe Wire from the"dra-Wing;` mill an alternate movement from. side to side-'With his Wrist as it Winds onftoftheabobbin or reel. rIhis operation is very tiring andyas;` it must be done regularly it accounts tor a considerableloss.
rlhis invention `comprises an automatic distributor-,tor the Windingfct. bobbins charscterizedV ind that' the Wire' Abeiiore being wound onto the bobbin passes over a guide pulley carried by a rod receiving a t"ans 'verse movement alternately `from side to side from a lever having an adjustable ful-A Crum to vary the amplitude oi` this movement, this lever being` itselil operated from a cam surface rotating at a speed proportional to that of the bobbin.
This automatic Winding oi the bobbin is distinguished 'from automatic Winding apparatus at present in use in that it is of :reduced and compact form and capable oi being fitted to any existing Winding machine. lt is usually mounted on a pedestal on this latter.
the invention will be described With reierence to the accompanying drawings.
Fig, l is a front view with the cover removed.
Fig. 2 is a side view, the cover being; in Section.
3 is a vieu7 from the bach.
The 'Wire coming` `irom the drawing mill passes over a guide pulley a and is Wound on to a reel t mounted on a frame and given a rotary motion. This pulley a is mounted on an arm c, sliding freely in slid-es d on a trame e, to which one end of a lever fulcrumed slidably about stud g, is pivoted. The other end of this lever is pivoted by a pivot 7L to a member h Which slides in bearings z' and bears against a heart shaped cam Said pivot 7L operates in a slot f with which the member is provided. rlhe cam y' is mounted on spindle 7c on which a Worm wheel Z5 rearing with a Worm m is al- The Worm m is driven by a rope passing over a' driving; pulley o the rope also passing over a pulley p mounted on a system ot pivoted levers g which keeps it tensioned.
A helical spring r surrounding and affixed to wa: spindles applies pressure-to one end ot the lever causing` the other end tov keep the member it constantly in contact With therEhe-cam j gives al backward and 'forward movement to the member L, when thelpulley o isfdriven, thismov-ement being `transni'itted through theY arms ot the'lever to the Aarm c oi' the'r guide pulley ct.,
lin-ord r to give Ya movement to the arm `c which will correspond to the size ot thereel the throivot t-he endso the leverf is var-y iable; the'studg onwhich it isiiulcrumed is carried'by a bracket t mounted on a screw a. By rotating this screw a the bracket t and stud g can be brought nearer to or tur- '.'zher vfrom the arm o thereby reducing,` or increasing the travel oi this arm.
The guide pulley a is mounted on the arm c by a rod li: sliding in a sleeve fw carried by the arm. n spring y is inserted on the rod e between the sleeve w and a collar at its upper end so that the tension oi the Wire being Wound can be regulated.
ln order to adjust the pulley a to the centre of the reel b the apparatus can be moved bodily transversely, the frame e being formed with two projections 8 which slide in sockets in the member e ai-lixed by a projecting clamp 5 to the machine pedestal. A screwed rod 2 ailixed to the trame e passes through the member 2 so that by the rotation ot the rod 2 the apparatuscan be moved bodily into the correct position.
A cover 4 held in position by a screw protects the mechanism Jtrom dust.
This apparatus in a very compact torm and can be used in coniunction with an automatic stop motion it the Wire should brealr and is very easily assembled Without alteration, on the pedestals ot existing Wind ing' machines. rllhe compact shape renders it little in the Way and is thus particularly practical.
lil/That we claim as our invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is l. An automatic distributor'lor exis Winding or reeling` machines comprising1 guide pulley over which the Wire to be` reeled passes, a trame, an arm carrying the pulley, bearings on the frame in which the arm slides, a lever pivoted on the armE stud on the trame about which the lever pivots, a member pivoted to the lever and sliding on the trame, a spindle carried by Sil the frame, a cam mounted thereon against Which the sliding member bears, a Worm Wheel mounted on the spindle, a second spindle carried by the frame, a Worm carried thereby With which the worm Wheel gears, a pulley mounted on the second spindle by which the Worm is driven and means for mounting the frame on the Winding,- machine and means for adjusting it with respect thereto.
2. An automatic distributor for existing Winding` or reeling machines as in claim l in combination With a Vertical screw carried by the frame on which the fulcrum for the lever is mounted to Vary the travel o'lf the guide pulley.
3. An automatic distributor for existing Winding or reeling` machines comprising a guide pulley over which the Wire to be reeled passes, a rod supporting the guide pulley, a sleeve in which the rod slides, a spring mounted on the rod and a screw for varying the tension on the spring to adjust the tension on the Wire, a frame, an arm carrying the sleeve, bearings on ,the frame in which the arm slides, a lever pivoted on the arm, a stud on the 'rame, about which the lever pivots, a member pivoted to the lever and sliding on the frame, a spindle carried by the frame, a cam mounted thereon 'against which the sliding member bears, a Worin Wheel mounted on the spindle, a second spindle carried by the frame, a Worm carM ried thereby with which the -Worm Wheel gears, a pulley mounted on the second spindle by Which the Worm is driven and means for mounting the frame on the Winding; machine and means for adjusting it with respect thereto.
In Witness whereof We aflix our signa-- tures.
