This invention is designed to handlema' terial, particularlysuch asrroad-way ,material as crushed stone and gravel.v alvhere this is used it is necessary to measure out a predetermined quantity of crushed stone and gravel, usually these measuredv v quantities being droppediintolthevehicle together so as to make what is ordinarily called a batch. In carrying out theinvention there is a storage bin with alhopper bottom adapted to carry the materialsflbelow thesemeasuring bins sufiiciently high, to permit the passage of the vehicle below them to receive the material. Difiiculty has-been heretofore experienced Yn strikingoff or cutting oft the measured material without waste oi the material, in othernvords, striking off the material insuch a way as to prevent the spill- I 'ing ofany excess materiahor the locking of the cutting off or striking oif device. Where crushed stone is used it isparticular- 1y d fficultto accomplish this in that the units of stone areot sufficient size to prevent details fll'lClFfG-EUZUTBS ot-the invention will appear from the specification and 7 claims.- 7 The invention is illustrated in the accompany ng, drawings as follows: 7 Fig; 1 shows aside elevation of 'the device.v 1 Fig. 2 an end view. i

indicates the gravel bin and 9 the crushed stone bin. These bins are provided with.
openings 10 and 11 which are connected by spouts with the measuring bins or boxes 12 and 13. The bottoms of the bins are flanged at 14 and angle biaces 15 extend across these.
The bin carrying beams 16 are secured below the bins on the angle plates 15 and rods 17 extend from the beams 16 to ears 18 on the boxes, the lower end of the boxes be-- ing telescopically formed so that by adjusting these rods the capacity of the measuring bins may be altered. The supporting beams Other Fig 4 a central section through the meas- 16 are connected short cross beams 18 and angle irons ,19; are mounted; on'the 7 cross beams lsparallel tothe beams 16. ;Rollers 20 are journaled between the beams 19 and 16 and'carry the gate plate 21'. 2Angle irons arearranged along'the sides of the gate plate so-thatthe plate is stiiiened' over'the, rollers and designed to carry the load upon Thegate plate has the apertures or open1ngs23 which areadapted to be brought into register with thelope-nings 10.1 Abrack" et 24 is secured to the end of the angle irons 22 and links 25 and 26' 'QXtend fromj these brackets to-a hand lever 27 gbywhich the gate. .1nay be operated. The lever is pivoted I at 28von a barlsec-ured tothebeam 2 );on the bottom of the hopper.-
Spouts or enclosuresi30 surround the o peningslO andv11 down asztaras thegateplate.
.ThlSiS open at 31, or-toward theclosureside i ofthe. gate so that when the, gateplate is 5 thrust toward the closing movement there is a clearance through the opening 31 which prevents the blocking; of the movement by the; crushed -stone,- theopening being larger thanthe units of the material that is:being used. g '4 In order to prevent the-spilling'of ma,- terial wvhich' 1s. struck "off; in this way we Promd8 fl finse hmh' atches th ma rial the measuring deviceso that with each operation' there is a depositoif any excess material that may be carried out in the striking off apparatus through the measuring box or bin.
Grates 35 are supplied at the bottomlends of the measuring boxes in the usual manner. These gates 35 are carried by angle irons 36,
vthe angle irons 36 having rollers 37 operating on tracks 38 on the bottoms-of the bins.
Bars 39 extend along the bars 38 connecting the gates of two. of the measurlng bins.
'These bars are connected by links 40 with operating levers 41 so that they may be opened when desired.
caught. to the It Will be understood that the measuring boxes 12 and 13 operate in pairs and that several pairs of these may be arranged side by side so as toput a number of batches into different compartments of a vehicle for transferring the material.
Vv hat We claim as new is z- 1. In a material handling apparatus, the
combination of a measuring bin; av strike oft device 0 eratin over. the bin-Land a eatcher at the side of the bin on Which materialcarried over by the strike ofi" device is deposited, said catcher delivering material bin, V v
In a material handlingapparatus, the
- combination of a stationary measuring bin;
a strike oil plate above the bin and acatcher at the'side of the bin on'ivhich material carried over by the strike off device is deposited, said catcher delivering the same to the bin. g
3. In a material handling apparatus, the
combination of a stationar 7 measur n bin; l b
a' st *ikeotf plate above the bin; and a catcher at-the side of the bin on WlllCll material carried over by the Slil'lliGOffdOVlCe is de- 1 posited, said catcher delivering the same combination of a storage bin; a measuring bin-arranged under the storage bin; a spout connecting said measuring bin; a strike off slate operating through said spout, said combination of of measuring bins;
therethrough spout having an opening at thefolosing side of the strike ofi plate-gand an apron at the side of the opening adapted to receive material ,caried over by the: strike oitplate and to deliver the material carried through the opening to the measuring bin.
6. In a material handling apparatus, the a storage bin; a measuring bin arranged under the storage bin}; aspout connecting said measuring bin; a strike oil plate operating through said spout, said spout having an. opening atthe closing side of the strike off plate'jand a tilting apron at the side of the opening actuated by the plate and receiving and delivering material garried over by the plate to the measuring 7. In material handling apparatus, the
combination of apair. of storage bins; a pair 7 spouts connecting said bins; a strike oii plate operating under'said spouts, said plate having apertures adapted to be brought into and out of register with the spouts, said spouts having an opening at the closing side, and tilting aprons at the sides of said openings extending through the strike oii plate, said tilting aprons being actuated by the plate and returning the material passing through the openings to the measuring bins. V
8. In a material handling apparatus, the combination of a storage bin; a spout lead ing from the bin; beams carried below the bin cross beams connecting the first-mentioned beams; inside beams connecting the cross beams; rollers between the inside beams and the first-mentioned beams ,q'and.
a closure gate op'eratingon said rollers.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto.
