Description
Sept. 47 1926.
G.T.LOYD
TOOTHBRUSH Filed May 15, 1926 INVENTOR ATTORNEY NITNESS:
Patented Sept. 7, 1926.
UNITED ,STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TOOTHBRUSH.
Application filed May 15,
The object of this invention is the provision of a tooth brush by whose use the front and back teeth can be effectively cleaned at the same time.
A further object is the provision of a tooth brush that includes a handle having an outer arched end designed to have removably secured in the said end the arched head plates of tooth brushes whereby either or both of the brushes may be readily removed for cleaning or for replacement when worn.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved tooth brush.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof with parts in section.
Figure 3 is a top plan view thereof with parts in section.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the locking key.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates the handle of my improved tooth brush. This handle, at one of its ends, is formed with an arched portion 2 defining inner and outer arms 3 and 4, respectively. The outer face of the arm 3 is concaved and the inner face of the arm 4 is convex. These arms, from their outer ends, are formed with dove-tailed slots or sockets 5.
As disclosed by the drawings two brushes are employed, and the head plates of both of these brushes are arcuate in plan. The head 6 carrying the bristles 7 and constituting the inner brush, .is of a greater length than the head 8 that carries the bristles 9 of the outer brush. Both the heads 6 and 8 are centrally formed, on their outer faces, with dovetailed lugs 10 and 11, respectively, and each of these lugs, at its juncture with its head, has a transverse passage 12 therethrough. The arms 3 and 4, at the portions thereof 1926. Serial No. 109,336.
provided with the dove-tailed slots have their confronting faces recessed, as at '13, the said recesses aligning with the passages 12. Adapted to be passed through the aligning recesses and passages there are key members. Each "key comprises a spring plate 14 that has one of its ends offset to provide a finger grip 15. By reference to Figure 3 of the drawings it will be seen that the spring keys will be arched when inserted for locking the brush heads on the arms of the handle and are thus self-sustaining. The keys may readily be withdrawn when it is desired to remove either of the brush heads. It is to be noted that the handle 1 is arranged centrally and at a right angle with respect to the brush heads which gives the operator a better gripping effect than were the handle otherwise located. The manner in which the device is operated is obvious and it is to be understood that I do not wish to be restricted to the precise structural details herein set forth, as such changes may be made therefrom as fairly fall within the scope of what I claim.
Having described the invention, I claim A tooth brush including a handle having an arched end defining opposed arms, each having its confronting face, from its outer end, formed with a dove-tailed socket and having transverse recesses communicating with the sockets, arched heads having bristles on their inner and confronting faces and having dove tailed lugs on their outer faces which are designed to be received in the sockets, said heads having transverse arcuate passages through their lugs to align with the recesses in the arms, and keys, comprising spring plates, passing through the aligning recesses and passages, arched b virtue of contact with the walls thereof an having outer lipped ends, holding the brush heads on the handle.
In testimony whereof I af'fix my signature.
GRAY T. LOYD.
