rmsn LIGHT.
Application fled September 17, 1925. Serial No. 50,307.
My invention relates to improvements in flash lights. It is particularly adaptedfor use in connection with flash lights'which are portable and have a cylindrical casin from a one end of which light is adapted to projected.
One of the objects of my invention is. to
provide a flash light of the kind described which is simple, cheap, durable, not liable to get out of order, which is provided with a novelhandle which enables it to be conven trates 'the pre erred embodiment of'my in- Fig. 1 is a side elevation, (part1 broken away, of a flash light provide wit my improvement. I
as Fig. 2 is a cross section thereof.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same shown in the tilted position.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the supporting members, and a portion of the transverse connecting member 'attached thereto.
Fig. 5 is a front view of one of the U- sha legs.
' imilar reference characters designate similar parts inthe diflerent views.
1 designates the cylindrical casin of an ordinary flash light of the type w 'ch is portable and which has at one end a lens 2 throu h which light is adapted to be pro- 1' from an electric lamp 3 in the casing. For supportingthe flash light in difier'ent 'tions when it is in use and unsup rted y the hand, I provide two legs un erthe casing 1, and disposed'one forward of the .4 other and which comprise each, preferably,
a U-shaped resilient wire having a honmnsupporting portion 4 and twoarms 6. a l Two pairs of supporting members 6 disposed one pair forward of t e other, an; prov vided. Tlhe of 6.0:; pair are fastened, rivets op si esrespectivelyofthecasingl and project below the w e iaprov'ided wit {t ture shown and described, as many m verse hole 8, and a lateral projection, preferably an arcuate flange 9, disposed concentric withthe hole 8 on the inner side of the member 6, which constitutes abutment locking means, and which at its ends terminates at two notches or recesses 11 located in radii from the hole 8 which are at right. angles to each other. 1
The arms of each leg are respectively extended through and are pivotally mounted in the holes 8- of the members 6 of the adjacent pair, so as to be swung from an upright suporting position, shown in dotted lines in ig. 1 to a position parallel with the casing 1, as shown in solid lines in Fig. 1.
,Each arm 5 's provided with an adapted to pass. Each arm 5 is adapted to be sprung into thetwo recesses 11 at the ends of the flange, whereby the latter releasably holds the arm in either the upright supporting position or in the position parallel with the casing 1.
Two brace transverse members 12 are fastened to and connect the supporting members 6 of the two pairs.
inwardly extending U-shaped portion 10 through, which the adjacent flange 9 is Alongitudinal U-shaped handle 13 has its arms fastened to the upper side of the easing. It enablesthe casing to be convenientl carried and held in different positions wit the hand.
When it is desired to use the flash light in a horizontal position, the arms 5 are disposed as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, in which position they are releasably held by the flanges 9. If it is desired to have the flash light disposed in use in an, upwardly tilted position, parallel position and the forward leg to the upright position shown in Fig. 32
When-the li ht is to be carried or stored, both legs may swung to the tion shown in solid knee in flanges 9 will hold position.
The flash light -is v ig. 1. The the legs in such parallel well adapted for use in adapted for the particular worlyin and. v I do not limit my invention to" the strucodifications, 0f the appended claims, 0 the spirit of my invention.
within the scope the rear leg is swung to h arallel posi-' may be made without departing from What I claim is In a flash light of the kind described, the combination with a flash light casing, of two pairs of supporting members, the mem- 6 bers of each pair being provided each with abutment locking means, and two U-shaped legs the arms of which are respectively pivoted to said supporting members, each of said arms being adapted to be swung to two 10 radial positions and in such positions engaging and being releasably held by said adjacent abutment means, said two pairs of supporting members being disposed one pair forward of the other pair at the under side of said casing, whereby the legs may be p0- sitioned to support the flash light casing horizontally, or upwardly or downwardly tilted.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
HENRY B. PATCHE.
