ELSIE LARSOF', OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOT A.
norm-Er,
Application filed May 29,1924. Serial 110. 716,685.
My invention provides an extremely simple launderable bonnet or cap adapted to be readily made in plain and in different ornamental designs. The bonnet or cap is adapted to be made from a single piece of clothor from several pieces .of cloth stitched together in the form of a sheet adapted to be laid out approximately flat and, hence, to be .easil washed and readily ironed.
The'bod y of the bonnet or cap, when laid out flat, has four sides and is preferably made more narrow at its rear than at itsfront edge. On its side edges, it is provided with separable fasteners, preferably buttons and buttonholes, the arrangement being such that the two sides of the iece or sheet are adapted to be gathered in olds and independently held in the gathered condition at the two sides to give form to the bonnet or cap.
As above indicated, the bonnet or cap may be made in various different designs, some ofwhich may be very ornamental.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view showin the bonnet or cap-forming sheet. laid out at;
Fig. 2 shows the bonnet or cap partly formed; and
Fig. 3 shows the bonnet or cap completely formed. a
In the drawings, a uite plain or simple form is illustrated an as hereillustrated, the four-sided bonnet or ca -f orming sheet 1 is providedat its front e go with a brim 2, shown as having a ruflie 5. At the ]11I10- tion of the body 1 with the brim 2, there is a stitched-on reinforcing band 3 on the ends of which outside buttons (1-41 are sewed and on the intermediate portion of which, e ui-distant from the buttons a, other buttons b are sewed. At the rear corners, the sheet 1 is provided with buttonholes el -a and atits rear sides, it is formed with buttonholes a a and b b abl the sheet 1, where the buttonholes a. an b are worked, is doubled together and the buttonholes are worked through both thicknesses thereof, thereby forming tucks, which, when the sheet is laid out flat for ironing, as shown in Fig. 1, will be ironed down flat. I
In giving form to the bonnet or cap, the
Preferrear corners of the sheet 1 are moved up and the buttonholes a are applied on the buttons 11, and this causes the sides of they cap to take substantially the form shown in.
applied to the buttons 6, and this givesthe' completed form to the bonnet or cap. The brim 2 can be turned forward, as shown in Fig. 2, or may be turned back as shown in Fig. 3. i 1
The arrangement above described is the most desirable, but it is'possible to apply-all of the buttonholes a a and b on the buttons a. r
In actual practice, this improved bonnet or cap has been found to be thoroughly practicable, highly desirable, and commercially valuable. It may' be made of all sorts. of different materials, as well as in various different ornamental or plain designs.
a What I claim is:
1. A bonnet or cap formed from a substantiallyrectangular sheet having atfront .and rear corners-of each of its sideedge portions a separable fastener for connecting said corners, and se arable fasteners for holding the interme iate portion of each of its side edge portions gathered.
2. A bonnet or" cap formed from a substan-.-
tially rectangular sheet having at front and rear corners of each of its side edge. portions a separable fastener for connecting said corners, the intermediate portion of the sheet at each of its side edge portions being gathered, and separable fasteners for holding gathered portions of saidsheet to the front edge 011 101! thereof.
3. bonnet or ca formed from a substantially rectangular s eet having at front and rear corners of each of its side edge portions a separable fastener for connecting said corners, the intermediate portion of the sheet at each of its side edge portions being g ath cred, and secured in part by the se arable fasteners sit-the front corners of sai sheet, and other separable fasteners securing the gathered portions of said sheet in part to the-front edge portion of said sheet.
4. A bonnet or cap formed. from a substantially rectangular sheet having buttons at its front corners and buttonholes' at its rear corners and also having intermediate buttons at its front edge portion and an termediate buttonholes being arranged for application to the intermediate buttons.
5. A bonnet or cap formed from a rectangular sheet having buttons at its front corners and buttonholes at its .rear corners,
and also having two intermediate-buttons at manage? its front edge portion and two intermediate brittonholes at each of its side edge portions, said corner buttonho'les and the rear intermediate buttonholes being arranged for application to the corner buttons and the front intermediate buttonholes being arranged for application to the intermediate buttons, adapting the sides to be gathered in folds and secured to give form to the bonnet or cap.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
