c z. WIENER COMBINATION FLOOR CLEANER AND OILER Filed July 18. 1925 INVENTOR Clair Wiener,
ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 24, 1926.
CLAIR WIENER, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINATION FLOOR CLEANER AND OILER.
Application filed July 18, 1925; Serial No. 44,591.
This invention is a combination floor cleaner and oiler, an obj ect of the invention being to provide an apparatus which can be conveniently moved over the floor and which will serve to take up dirt, .dust and particles, which will wash the floor, dry
the same and oil it.
A further objectis to provide an apparatus of this character which is neat and attractive in appearance and which most efficiently performs the functions for which it is intended.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved apparatus;
Figure 2 is a view in. section on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view in section at right angles to Figure 2, the View being taken on the line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure at is a view in longitudinal section, illustrating my improved oiling roller;
Figure 5 is a view in transverse section on the line 55 of Figure 4;;
1 represents the casing of my improved apparatus which forms a cover and receptacle closed at its top, sides and ends, and open at its bottom. This casing is supported at both ends by a pair of wheels 2 spaced apart and preferably covered with rubber or other material for imparting the necessary frictional surface thereto.
A bail 3 is connected to the ends of casing 1 and a handle 4 is secured to the bail to allow the apparatus to be pushed or pulled over the surface of the floor.
Metal straps 5 having their ends bent at right angles and secured to the front and rear walls of casing 1 are located at both ends of the casing and are spaced from the ends of the casing and have a certain amount of resiliency capable of lateral movement, the necessary functions of which will be hereinafter described. 0
Tubular coupling devices 6 are coupled to the straps 5 by means of screw plugs 7 which are projected through openings in the straps and screwed into the coupling members as clearly shown in Figure 3. There are two of these coupling members spectively, are mounted, municates with a water tank 11 supported located in alinement, one at each end of the casing, and on each coupllng member a friction roller 8 is secured and is located between the pairs of wheels 2, 2 and re- 60 ceives rotary motion from said wheels.
The plugs 7 are made with central open ings in which flexible hose 9 and 10, re-
The hose 9 comon top of casing 1, and the hose 10 communicates with an oil tank 12 also on top of the casing 1.
A valve or cook 13 is provided at the outlet of tank 11 and is coupled directly to the pipe 9, and this valve or cock is controlled by a pull rod 14 mounted in a suitable guide 15 on the tank 11. A similar valve or cook 16 constitutes the outlet of tank 12 and is coupled directly to the hose 10. 7'5 7 This cock or valve is controlled by a pull rod 17 mounted in a suitable guide 18 on tank 12.
In Figure 3 I illustrate my device with my improved washing brush 19 mounted in the couplings 6. This washing brush has a hollow core 20 with bristles 21 around the same and with perforations 22 in the wall of the core, as clearly shown.
On .the ends of the core 20 hollow trunwater is applied to the floor as the brush or washer is revolved by the movement of the device over the floor.
The casing 1 at both sides of the washer or other attachment is provided with movable platforms 26 onto which dirt and particles are thrown by the brush, and these platforms can be moved so as to empty themwhenever desired.
In Figures 1 and 5 I illustrate my improved oiler 0r mop 27 which is constructed precisely like the washer 19 except that instead of having bristles around the core I provide a covering of felt or other suitable material 28 which will wipe the floor. When 7 this oiler is substituted for the washer, oil
is supplied from the tank 12, past the valve 16, through the pipe or hose 10, and satu- When this 90 rates the felt or other covering material 28 which applies the oil evenly and smoothly to the floor.
The brush and oiler are readily interchangeable as their construct-ions at their ends are precisely alike. To remove one of these devices it is simply necessary for the operator to grip the rollers 8 and draw them outwardly, the flexibility and resiliency of the metal straps 5 permitting this movement far enough to allow the rotary member to be uncoupled, and while one or both of these coupling members are thus drawn outwardly either of the devices can be inserted and the metal straps 5 will cause the parts to move together and remain in proper juncture for all operations. lVith my improved apparatus the floor can be thoroughly washed and oiled and any suitable drying and dusting means may be employed.
Various slight changes and alterations mightbe made in the general form ofthe parts described without departing from my invention and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the 'precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A device of the character described, including a casing, a pair of Wheels at each end of the casing, tubular rotary members in the ends of the casing, rollers on said rotary members frictionally engaging the wheels, said rotary members having recesses in their inner ends, and said rotary members adapted to be moved longitudinally, a horizontally disposed cylindrical hollow perforated rotary floor-contacting device located within the casing, trunnions on the ends of said last-mentioned device adapted to be received in the recesses of the rotary members, said trunnions being tubular in form and communicating with the hollow perforated rotary floor-contacting device, liquid-containing tanks on the casing, flexible hose connecting the respective tanks with said tubular rotary members, and means for controlling the flow of liquidthrough the respective rotary members.
