WILLIAM A. MOSER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CLAMP.
Application filed September 26, 1925. Serial No. 58,789.
This invention relates to clamps for supporting'the removable false work used in uilding concrete structures and for like purposes.
An object of the invention is to provide a clamp for engagement with the upright shores of the false work tosupport the remaining portion of the frame upon which the concrete is poured and retained until it hardens, after which the clamp may be released to permit the false work to be dis-l mantled and removed without serious damage thereto. Thus, I am enabled to use the same pieces of timber repeatedly and indefinitely by avoiding the damage to the timber resulting from dismantling and removing the false work when the pieces are nailed together.
Other objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the clamp in use.
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Fig. 3 is an end view.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of two members of the clamp.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the remaining clamp member.
The embodiment of the invention shown comprises a frame or bracket 1 approximately of U-shape which may be made of a bar or rod bent to form desired, with a backwardly turned hook 2 on the end kof each arm. This bracket is designed and arranged to embrace the upright shore 3 between the arms thereof.
An angular supporting member comprising a base 4 and one or more upright arms 5 is pivotally retained upon the connection between the Varms of the bracket 1 by pins 4a projecting from the base 4 and has a number of teeth or flanges 6 on its inner end arranged to indent into the upright shore r 3 to cooperate with another element of the clamp to support the device in position. The horizontal part 7 of the false work rests upon the base 4 between the arm or arms 5 and the upright shore 3. The part 7 1s securely held by teeth or hooks 8 on the arms 5 and supports the joists 9 upon which the sheeting or deck 10 rests. The concrete is poured upon the sheeting or deck 10 and the false work is not dismantled or removed until after the concrete has hardened.
The other member ofthe clamp comprises a block 11 insertable between the ends of the arms of the bracket 1 and a pair of arms 12 extending from the ends of the block and arranged to engage in the hooks 2.
In mounting the device the bracket 1 is rst placed in position with the part 7 resting upon the clamp member 4-5 as described, after which the arms 12 are placed in the hooks 2 and the block 11 is driven to horizontal position in which the inner edge thereof presses with clamping pres# sure against the upright shore 3, causing the teeth or flanges 6 to indent into the upright shore and the lugs 8 to indent into the horizontal part 7 of the false frame work. After the false frame work has been completed the concrete is poured and permitted to harden, after which the block 11 is driven out of connection with the remaining parts, permitting the clamp to be removed and the false work to be dismantled without serious Y damage thereto.
The device may be assembled and removed with comparative rapidity and facility, preserving the parts of the false work for repeated use.
From the foregoing it will be seen that my invention obtains all of its intended objects and purposes and is capable of considerable variation without departure from the nature and principle thereof. I do not restrict myself unessentially, but what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A clamp of the character described comprising a pair of approximately parallel spaced arms, a connection integrally uniting one end of said arms, an element mounted on said connection to engage a support to which the clamp is to be, attached, an arm extending upwardly from the outer portion of said element and arranged to hold a supported part against the support on which the clamp is mounted. and a clamping element having detachable connection with the free ends of said arms.
2.` A. clamp of the character described comprising a pair of approximately parallel spaced ar1ns,'a connection uniting one end of said arms, an angular element pivoted on said connection to engage a support to which the clamp is to be attached and arranged to hold a supported part against the support on which the Clamp s mounted, means preventmgl-)4,9713
ing` detachment of said element from said Connection, hooks integral With the Vfree ends of said arlns, a clamping block, and 10 arms on the ends of said clamping' block having pivotal connection with said hooks.
