DETACHABLE BUTTON.

Application filed December 8, 1925.

This invention relates to buttons and in particular to a type which can be securely attached to a garment or piece of material without the use of thread or other like holding agent.

A particular object of the invention is to provide a detachable button. for garments or the like, which can readily be applied at any time, said button being in the natureot a bachelor. button and being arranged so that its'attachment to the garment does'not necessitate the forming of. a button hole in the garmentv prior to the application of the button thereto.

A further object of the invention is to provide a button comprised of a central link portion which will bind the button securely to the garment and which will also firmly hold the button so that the same can not be torn out of the garment in which it is attached. there being provided in connection with said link. a backing: plate which is disposed on the opposite side oi the garment tromthe button and which strengthe'iis the material adjacent. the button so that the lattcr cannot. be torn out of the material.

.\ l'urther objeet oi the invention is to provide a garment piercing member as a lart/ot the combination button which can be forced through the material to be englag'ed by a link member to which can be attached the button itself. the whole, when assembled giving the appearance of a sewn button and also providing room torthe inaterial'that is buttoned over the button.

It is evident. upon inspection of Figures 2 and 4 that the reduced portion of the stud 5 allows the expansion of the material after the threaded portion of the stud has passed therethrou ah and allows the same to be flattened between the stud plate 9 and the disc' portion ll of the link above referred to so that. distortion of the garment ad acent the button is eliminated. and the link member can be threaded down over the stud tightlg; against the material to cause the prongs of th stud plate 9 to securely engage the goods, so that the goods adjacent the button is firmly gripped throughout the area of the stud plate 9 and danger of pulling the button out of the goods is eliminated.

in Figure l l have shown a slight modification to.the link member which consists in providing a flat dome which is adapted for use in the large type of button. The but-ton used may be of any suitable material and may be formed with a bead edge 17, the button itself being indicated at 16 and being provided with a central, threaded bore 18 into which the threaded portion I3 of the link is engaged, when the button is threaded in place on said link. The button is curled on its outer periphery as at 19 so that the same can be securely threaded into place over the link member. It will be noted; that the bottom diameter of the button is substantially the same diameter as the disc portion .11 of the link so that when the button isIjin place, it would appear as though the" link member is a solid part thereof and the link disc 11 serves the purpose of holding the button in spaced relation with. the material so that the garment portion that is buttoned over the button will be substantially held thereby without wrinkling or distortion.

Having described my invention what I claim as new is:-

1. A detachable button for garments or the like comprising a'piercing stud member having a central threaded portion, a link member in threaded association therewith, a button having a. central opening therein removably associated with said link member, a disc portion on said link, and said stud memher and said disc portion being of substan tially the same diameter, and a beaded end on said link member extending into the opening in said button for covering the piercing point of said stud.

2. A sectional detachable button for garments comprising a stud member, a bifton member and an intermediate link portion, said link portion being formed to provide a spherical projection at one end thereof and projected portions on said stud members adapted for piercing and holding the material to which said button is attached, and said stud having an enlarged central threaded portion for engagement with said link portion.

3. A detachablebutton for garments comprising a stud member having formed integral therewith a plate portion, and a piercing point, said plate portion being provided with upstanding rong members, a link adapted to be attac ed to said stud portion, and having a spherical receptacle into which the piercing point of said plate extends said link being provided with a flange, the outer periphery of which is knurled, a button removably associated with'said link members and the outer periphery of said button and said stud plate. portion being knurled, and the plate portion, the flange portion and the bottom of the button being of substantially the same diameter.

A. detachable button comprising a stud shank having a central enlarged threaded portion and a piercing point, a stud plate formed integral with the stud shank and provided with piercing points, a link having an intermediate button receiving portion and an enlar ed end adapted to form a center for said button when the same is in place on the link, and said link having a disc ortion whereby the material to be held will e compressed between said disc portion and said stud. plate.
