MAHLON M. LUCKY, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD HIS RIGHT TO HEZEKIAH HUTGHINS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUILDERS TRESTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 159,337, dated February 2, 1875; application filed January 9, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAHLON M. LUCKY, of Indianapolis, State of Indiana, have invented an Improvement in Builders Trestles, of which the following is a specification: I
My invention relates to an improvement on a trestle for which Letters Patent No.141,228 were issued to me July 29,1873, by which the clamp for holding the legs to the back is much sim plified.
The drawing is an end elevation, showing the manner of attaching the legs to the back.
A plate, f, is attached to the back board, A, by bolts or in any suitable manner, having a flange, h, to receive the top end of the leg, a flange, 2', against which the side of the leg rests a short distance from the end, and a flange, j, which projects under and supports the back. A loop, k, is also provided, which may form a part of the plate f, or may be bolted to it, as may be desired. The end of the leg m having been placed under the flange h. and withits side against the flange i, is encircled by the loop 7a. A wedge, a, is now driven in between the inside of the loop and the leg, forcing the leg against the plate f and flange i, and thus firmly holding it in place. The lower end of the leg m is furnished with one or more bands, 0, into which the extension-piece p is passed, and there fastened by means of the wedge 1', driven between the band and extension-piece. All of the legs are constructed and fastened in the same manner.
By this mode of construction I am enabled to provide a cheap trestle, which may be readily adapted to any-si zed room or building, and may be also easily and quickly taken apart and packed in a small compass for transportation.
I claim as my invention- In a trestle, a clamp for attaching the leg or legs to the back, consisting of the plate f, provided with the flanges h i j, loop k, and wedge at, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
MAHLON M. LUCKY.
