rlhis invention relates to improvements in extensions tor timers such as are employed in connection with the motor of automobiles.
One ot the primary objects of the present invention isto provide a timer extension which may bereadily and conveniently'applied to -any of the well known makes of timers ot the general type retcrredto above and which will support thelends ot the con ductor wires in` anelevated position where they willinotibe liable tobecome fouled with dirt and grease, andin such position that they will'be more readily connected with th-e timer than is ordinarilypossible and withn out the necesssity of removing or in any way disturbing the timer. y
Another object of the invention is to provide a timer extension so constructed that when mounted in place upon the timer it will not in any way interfere with the proper adjustment ot the timer shell nor be liable to be brought into Contact with any moving part-s such as the fan belt.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the timer extensions embodying the invention mounted upon a timer shell of ordinary construction, a. portion of the terminal block of the timer being shown in section to illustrate the manner of assembling the conductor members therewith; and
Figure 2 is a sid-e elevation of the device mounted upon the timer shell.
In the drawings the numeral 1 indicate-s a commutator or timer shell of the ordinary construction as employed in connection with automobile motors and which shell is provided with the usual binding post-s 2 to which are applied binding nuts 3 which ordinarily secure the terminals of the commutator wires. The numeral l indicates the usual sp-ring arm which extends from the breather tube and engages and supports the commutator shell in a manner to permit of the required angular adjust-ment which is effected in the usual manner through manipulation of the spark lever (not shown) and operative connection between the sam-e and the usual upstanding arm 5 upon the said shell 1.
The extension embodying the invention comprises a terminal block which is indicated in general by the numeral 6 and which may be formed of any suitable insulating material such for example as liber, the block having a general segmental form and being Serial No. 537,918.

The members 9 and 10 may be formed ot smell rod material but preferably of copper tubing as this material presents certain advantages and is generally more satisfactory than solidmaterial. Thus and the lower or chordal each of the conductor members comprises a length or copper tubing` which has its upper end portion bent at an angle as at 1l to adapt it to be iitted into the respective one of the openings 8 so that the bend will be located substantially at the plane of the chordal yside of the terminal block 6 and will therefore serve in eifcct as a shoulder to limit the upward movement of the said end portion of the member into its respective opening 8 or the relative downward movement of the terminal block. The upper end oit each member projects a suitable distance above the arcuate side 7 of the terminal block and is threaded as at 12 and has applied thereto a washer 13 and a binding nut 14 whereby the terminals of the commutator wires may be anchored to the block and electrically connected with the respective conductor members 9 and 10.
Preferably the conductor members 9 are litted through the end ones of the openings 8k in the terminal block and below their bends 11 are extended downwardly in a rearward direction as best shown in Figure 2 and somewhat converge except at their lower end portions where they are turned laterally in opposite directions, the lower ends of these members being flattened to provide ears 15 having apertures 16 adapting them to be iitted over the binding posts 2 at the upper side of the shell 1 in which position they may be secured by the respective binding nuts 3. The. members 10 are extended downwardly from their bends 11, for a portion of their length in substantial parallelism, and at their lower port-ions are curved outwardly 'from each other in lateral directions and are likewise curved rearwardly and downwardly to their lower ends which are formed in the same manner as the ends 15 ot the members 9 and are similarly applied to the lower binding posts of the shell. By reference to lfigure 2 oi the drawings it will be observed that the said lower rearwardly and downwardly curved portions of the members 1G which portions are indicated by the numeral 17, are spaced forwardly trom the surface ot the timer shell l a suliicient distance to entirely clear the spring arm 4f which retains the shell in place, this arm projecting between the shell and the said portions 17 of the members lO and being located below the lower portions of the members 9. lt will also be observed by reference to Figure 2 that the lower portions otI the members 9 are so positioned with relation to the arm 5 as not to in any way interfere with the connection with said arm of the rod which leads `from the spark lever rod.'
From the foregoing description of the invention it will be evident that by the use of the extension the commutator wires at their forward ends will be 'supported in an elevated position above the timer shell where they will not be liable to become fouled with accumulations of dirt and grease and furthermore, because oi' their elevated location, their terminals may be more readily and conveniently assembled with the upper ends 12 of the conductor members 9 and l0.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
ln an internal combustion engine7 the combination with the usual commutator shell provided with spaced radial binding posts to receive the commutator wires` of an elongated block of segmental form having radial openings7 stout conductors supporting the said block clear of the commutator yshell and attached at one end to the binding posts thereof and having the opposite end passing through an opening of the block and secured therein and projecting to provide a binding post, and having the projecting end threaded, and a binding nut on the projecting threaded end of each of the said conductors to secure a commutator wire thereto.
