To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN B. MGHRG, of Rome, Gueida county, in'the State" of New York, have invented an Instrument'for EX- ploding` Blank Cartridges, of 'which the following is a specification, reference being had4 of the gas of the exploded cartridges, with a cap constructed to iit over the open endot' the tube, rctainedin place by a spring-catch, which may engage with Aan annular projection,

on the outer surface A.ofthe cap, the inner'face of the head of the cap being preferably pro'- vided with a projection for firing 'tliepartrdge, the whole being designed to be attached to the end of a cane, or to the-head of an arrow. f r

v H is a metal cylinder, in the one end of which is formed -a chamber to receive a ruetallic cartridge, B, the ilangepri-med head ot' 'which rests on the end of the cylinder. O is a cap, whch'ts over the end ot' the cylinder H. Across the center of the inner face of the head ot' the cap is preferably a rib or projection, c, which, when vthe cap is driven down .upon the'cylinder, impinges upon the head of the cartridge and lires it.A Upon the outer surface ot the cap niay he. an annular -r'b or projection, b, in which is cut a notch;'c. -D is a spring-catch secured at one end to the -fer- `rule A. The opposite end rests upon the cap, and holds it in place on the cylinder.' lVlfith this modification, which is shown in 2 Fig; 6, a shank. on the end of the'shat't ofthe cane is 'fitted to follow the cartridge into the cane-head, which, being forced against the cartridge, will explode it. i'

In a cane providedwith this instrument, 'a cartridge maybe carried for any length ot' time,A 'as a cane -i'si-Ordinari]yfusedirwalking; and may be exploded at pleasure by striking` the cane down forcibly upon the hard ground or pavement.

W/Vhen attached to -an arrow, the Hight ot' the arrow will carry it with Asntlicient force against ahard object to explode theca-rtridge. The general design ot' the. invention ,is to furnish a sate, convenient, and attractive instrument to explode blank cartridgesgfo'r innocent amusement.:
