My invention relates to a. merry-go-round or circle swing for children and particularly to a. merry-go-round or swing which is turned by the children either by engaging the ground with their feet to turn the merrygo-round or by grasping arms of the merrygo-round and running about the axis thereof.

AThe general object of my invention is to provide a merry-go-round or swing of the indicated type improved in various particulars especially with respect to the seating assemblage whereby the maximum seating capacity is provided, strength in the merry-go-round structure is promoted, as

well as to provide a merry-go-round characterized by the convenience and safety with which it may be operated.v f

The nature of my invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description proceeds.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specilication, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a merrygo-round embodying my invention;

Figure 2 is a plan view showing on an enlarged scale a seating arrangement;

Figure 8 is a front elevation of the parts shown in Figure 2.

In carrying out my invention in accordance with the illustrated example, a mast 10 is erected and extending from the mast adj acent the base'thereof are inclined arms 11. Also hanger arms 12 are provided extending from a suitable itting 13 on the mast 10 near the top and downwardly in divergent relation. The upwardly and outwardly disposed arms 11 and the downwardly and outwardly disposed arms 12 serve to car-ry a seat assemblage. Said seat assemblage comprises seats 14 in one plane andalternating seats 15 in a lower plane. Thus the seats 14, 15 alternately higher and lower are disposed about the merry-go-round in continuous series, each seat running at right angles to a radial line struck from the mast 10. Thus, the connection between the arms 11, 12 and the adjacent ends of adjacent seats 14, 15 is effected by the use of spacing blocks 16 between the seats 14, 15 at the ends thereof and vertical bolts 17 having nuts 18. The bolts 17 pass through feet 19 on the ylower end-s of the arms 12, through the spacing blocks 16, and through feet 2O on the upper ends of the upwardly extending arms 11 and therefore the tightening up of the nuts 18 on bolts 17 serves to secure in lan effective and simple manner the ends of ad- `jacent seats to one another and to the arms 11 and 12. i

The occupants of the seats 14, 15 face outwardly instead o'in the direction of turning of the merry-go-round and the children in that way may cause the merry-go-round to turn by those seated pressing one foot against the ground and alsothe construction permits of children standing on the ground inside of the seats and taking hold of 'the arms 11 and in that way running about with the turning of the structure, it being `well recognized that children in playing with merry-go-rounds enjoy the running equally with the riding. The depressed seats 15 have backs 21, two of such backs being shown and the others being omitted in the interest of clearness. are, like the seats 14, 15, disposed at right angles to a radial line instead of on a radial line or approximately so as in the common form of merry-go-rounds. Some advantages of the construction described in addition to those referred to are that small children may be properlyaccommodated on the lower seats and l,larger children on the higher seats; and the form and arrangement of the parts enables they structure to be cheaply constructed and assembled with facility.

I would state in vconclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical Said seat backs 21v etv embodiment of-my invention, I do not limitk myself strictly to the exact details hereinv illustrated, since, manifestly, the 'same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A merry-go-round of the class described, including a mast, a series of arms near the foot of the mast and extending outwardly and upwardly, a series of arms having support at their upper ends on the mast and extending downwardly and outwardly to points adjacent the terminals of the firstmentioned arms, a plurality of seats disposed in a series about the merry-go-round at the outer ends ,pf the arms, alternate seats being depressed in a plane below the adjacent seats, the seats of said series overlapping at adjacent ends and spaced, means securing the overlapped ends of the seats to both series of arms at the outer ends thereof.

A merry-.go-ronnd of the class described including` a mast, a series of seats disposed about the mast distant therefrom and overlapping one another, seats being at a higher level than adjacent seats; together With arms extending from alternate the mast adjacent the base .thereof to said 10' inner ends, and vone arm of each of said series being connected Wlth lthe overlapped l5 ends of two adjacent seats.
