BOBBEID-HAIR HOLDER.
Application filed January 9, 1-925.
In wearing a bobbed hair coiffure, the foreloclz often become dishevelled and hang down over the forehead in front of the yes. This invention has for its main object to provide a holder in which strands of hair forming the forelock are clamped to prevent said forclocks from being disarranged or moved from their original or intended position.
A other object to provide a bobbed hair holder in which the forelock, parted and arranged on one side of the head, is loci-ted in the holder, the latter being secured by hanging and anchoring the same on the ear of the wearer.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to likenamed parts in the drawing.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure l is an illustration showing the invention as ap led to a bobbed hair coiffure.
i ure El an enlarged top plan view of the left hand bobbed hairholder shown on an enlarged scale.
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view taken on line l L of Figure 34 R ferring in detail to the drawing, the nu moral. indicates the frame of the bobbed hair holder. This frame is formed 1nto a slender curved platedike member and is constructed of a pair of parallel horizontal bars 12 which are integrally connected by side bars l3 and 14, the parall l horizontal bars 12 being the ones that are curved ion. udinally. Figures 55, 3, and 4E, illusthe bobbed hair holder worn on the left side of the head and cooperating with the left ear of the wearer, it being borne in mind that the bobbed hair holders are used in pairs on the let and right sides of the head. The bars l2, l3, and 14, forming the rectangular frame 10, are curved on tneir edges to enhance the appearance of the frame. In the left hand bobbed hair holder,
the side bar 13 is provided with a pair of mutually spaced-apart ears 15 between which one end of a rod 16 is pivotally se-.
cured by a pin 17 which passes thru both of the ears l5 and rotatably anchors the bar 16 between the ears. This bar extends across the frame 10 substantially parallel thereto and projects outwardly beyond the outer edge of the side bar let and is formed into Serial No. 1,371.
a downwardly extending relatively large hook 18. The side bar 1% is provided with a lug 19 which extends outwardly from the bar and is integral therewith. This lug GXtQIlCS outwardly at right angles to the bar and is provided with a recess 20 into which the bar 16 may be inserted thru its upper open end. i
The several strands 21 which form the foreloclt of the hair of the head, are trained to fall on the side of the head and face and terminate when the coiffure is of the bobbed hair variety at a point in front of the ears and below the top thereof. When moving the head from side to side, or nodding, or thru other active movements of the head, these strands forming the forelocks become disarranged and fall in front of the face, thus giving a cishevelled appearance. To guard against disarranging these forelocks, one of the holders is applied to each side of the head and firmly anchors the foreloek in its desired position. ln securing the holders in place, tic ends of the forelccks are manioulated into a compact group and the wider is opened by lifting the free end of the bar 1e, which is flexible, out of the recess 20, and swinging the frame 10 outwardly. The forelock is then placed in the space 22 provided between the bar 16 and the frame 10, and is locked therein by again moving the frame 10 and bar 16 together. This bar 16, after being locked in the re cess 20, as indicated in Figure l, holds the forelock within the space 22. In order to secure the forelocl-t in a definite position so that it cannot fall in front of the face, the heel; l8 and extension of the bar 16 are nrovided. This hool-r, after the forelocl: has been inserted in the :c over the ear of the wearer and is entirely concealed, as the hook 1S and the entire length of the bar 16 are under the hair and thereiore cannot be seen. its the frame 10 is the only part to be seen, it is ornamented, giving the bars 12, 13, and 1d, a curved outline intended to enhance the appearance of the coilfure, as combs do. i
I claim A hair holder comprising a rectangular frame formed of parallel integral bars, a pair of hinge ears on one of said bars, a recessed lug on the opposing bar, an additional flexible bar pivotally mounted be-- tween said hinge ears, said frame being curved longitudinally forming a space he- 22, is slipped tween the flexible bar and frame, one end of said flexible bar being hinged to said ears, said frame being curved longitudinally forming a space between the flexible bar and frame, said flexible bar extending longitudinally and coursing to a position where it enters the recessed lug, the remaining length of said additional bar being curved downwardly and inwardly to lie snugly on the side of the head in the region of the 10 ear and partly encircle the latter.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
