IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-STOPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,067, dated January 26, 1875; application tiled January 6, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GHARLEs M. BLYDEN- BURGH, of Riverhead, county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in BottleStoppers, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in a piece of sponge or other porous material inserted in or otherwise attached to the lower or inner end of a bottle-stopper, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to def scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specilication, and in which- Figure lis a side View of a bottle-stopper embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a side view ot' a bottle with my improved stopper therein.
A represents an ordinary bottle-stopper of cork, the lower or inner end of which is hollowed to receive a piece, B, of sponge or other suitable porous material. The piece B may be attached to the stopper by means of thread or wire, as shown, or in any other manner so as to be permanently connected thereto.
This invention may be applied to bottlestoppers of other material, such as glass, rubber, Sto., to which the piece B may be attached by silicate of soda or other adhesive substance, or in any other convenient manner.
The advantages of this invention are apparent. For instance, in liniments, arnica, or other liquids to be applied externally, instead of using a brush or swab separate from the bottle, it is always at hand and always ready for use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A bottle-stopper provided with a swab, B, of sponge or other suitable material at its lower or inner end, substantially as herein set forth.
