Description

June 29 1926. 1,590,641
C. A. MEALY I WRIST WATCH STRAP Filed Jan. 27, 1926 Patented June 29, 1926.
UNITED STATES 1,590,641 PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES A. MEALY, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE HADLEY COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
WRIST-WATCH STRAP.
Application filed January 27, 1926. Serial No. 84,196.
This invention relates to certain newand useful improvements in wrist watch straps and relates more particularly to a strap which may be lengthened thereby to permit of disengagement thereof from the wrist without disconnecting the strap ends from the watch.
The primary object of the invention is to provide improved and simplified means for enabling the strap to be adjusted as to length so as to fit wrists of different sizes.
A further object of the invention is to provide means of the character mentioned which enables the adjustment to be eas ly and quickly effected and to also provide means which can be economically produced.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side edge elevation of the invention, partly broken away and in section, the strap being shown in fragment,
Figure 2 is a top plan view the parts belng in opened position, to lengthen the structure, and
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 of Figure 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a strap composed of sections 1 and 2 is employed, the outer ends of which sections are connected to the watch and the inner ends of which are provided with loops 3 and 4.
The inner ends of the straps are spacedly connected by a connector composed of sections 5 and 6 hinged together at their ends at 7 Section 5 has sides 7, between which the sides 7" of section 6 are received.
Section 5 is formed with a series of struckout parts in its bottom wall, which parts are bent or shaped to form hooks 8. The hooks are spaced lengthwise of the section 5 and extend transversely thereof.
The loop 3 of the strap 1 is cut away as indicated at 9 to expose the central part of a pin or cross-bar 10, the pin being received in the resultant spaced loop ends, and is headed at 11 so as to prevent axial movement thereof.
The strap section 2 is connected to the sides 7 of the cdnnector section 6 by means of a pin 12, which is received in the loop 4. The pin ends project outwardly beyond the sides 7 of the section 6 and are received in keepers 10' provided therefor in the sides 7 of the section 5, thereby to hold the section latched as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
1 the like.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the strap may be easily and quickly adjusted to vary its length by merely engagin the pin 9 with the desired one of the hoo s 8, without operating any extraneous parts or Further, the pin is confined between the two sections, as well as the several hooks, thus concealing these parts and preventing contact thereof with the wrist or person or other objects.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a wrist watch strap, a pair of strap sections,'a pair of connector sections hinged together at their inner ends one of the connector sections having sides and having a series of spaced struck-out hooks between its sides and extending transversely across the bottom, a pin connected to an end of one of the strap sections, said end of said strap section being cut away to expose the central part of the pin, said central part of the pin eing engageable with a selected one of the hooks, and means to connect an end of the other strap section to the outer end of the other connector section.
2. In a wrist watch strap, a pair of strap sections, a pair of connector sections hinged together at their inner ends, one of the connector sections having a series of hooks carried by the bottom thereof, a pin connected to an end of one of the strap sections, said end of said strap section having a cutaway part to expose a part of the pin, said exposed part of the pin being engageable with a selected one of the hooks, and means to connect an end of the other strap section to the outer end of the other connector section.
3. In a wrist watch strap, a pair of strap sections, a pair of connector sections hinged together at their inner ends, a pin carried by one of the ends of one of the strap sections and having an exposed intermediate part, means to connect and end of the other strap section to one of the connector sections, and a series of means carried by the other connector section to selectively engage the exposed intermediate part of the pm.
4. In a wrist watch strap, a pair of strap sections, a pair of connector sections carried by the respective strap sections and being hinged together at their inner ends, one of the strap sections having a loop formed with a central cutaway part, a pin carried by the loop having said cutaway art, and a series of means carried by one 0 the connector sections to selectively engage the exposed part 'of the pin.
5. In a wrist watch strap, a pair of strap sections, a pair of connector sections hinged together at their inner ends, a pin carried by one of the strap sections, a series of means carried by one of the connector sections and disposed between the sides thereof to selectively engage the pin, and means to connect an end of the other strap section to the other connector section.
6. In a Wrist watch strap, a pair of strap sections, a pair of connector sections carried CHARLES A. MEALY.
