Ironing boards are of two general types,

spaced supports, and when not in 'use is stood in a corner or a suitable closet, and the other concealed within a cabinet set in the ira-ll and adapted'to be swung outfor use. The lirst 'mentioned type is objectionable in that when mounted on two spaced supports for use itis apt to become disengaged and is more or less in the vway w-hen stood in a corner or closet. The last mentioned type is objectionable in that the ironing board cannot be made ofthe desired width as the cabinet must be litted between the studdings and 'furthermore is expensive and cannot be' placed in homes eXcept at the time of their construction withouttearing out the wall.

With the above and other objections to the types of ironing boards now generally employed in mind, this invention has for one of its objects to provide a structure of 'the character` described which may be made in any desired size and which can be readily placed in homes either during their construction or after their completion.

It is another object 'of this invention to provide a device of the character described in which an improved type of supporting leg is provided for the free end of the ironing board when in use, whereby the same is rigidly supported without interference 'with the article being 'ironed Another object of this invention resides in the provision of an ironing board of the character described in which the support therefor has an opening therein of a shape to receive the board with its outer face flush with the supportwhen not in use. n

Another object of this invention resides in the 'provision of a device of the character described in which the support and ironing board are constructed from a 'single plank of wood to thus ed'ect economy in labor Vand naterialin the Vcourse of its manufacture.

With 'the vabove 'and other objects infview which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined inthe appended claims, it being understood that such changes inthe precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims. l In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated one complete example of the phys ical embodiment of my invention constructed according to the best mode I have so far devised for the 'practical application of the principles thereof, and in which:

The member 24 is pivotally connected with member 17 byL a pin 25, as illustrated in Figure 3, and that portion of member 24 extendedbeyond the leg 23 is of awidth substantially equal to that of member 17, providing shoulders' 26, for the purpose herinafter described. 17 and 24 are cut from a Vsingle length of wood, the formation of the leg 23 producing recess 22, thus providing an economy in labor and material and insuring thelitting of the leg 23 in the recess 22 when the leg structure is` folded. Y.,

The upper end of the member 24 ispreferably provided with a transyerse piece or head 27 thereby forminga substantially T-shaped supporting member, the head o f which engages the under surface of the board when in extended position to insure a irm support throughout .substantially its entire width. `When in extended position, the parts take the positions illustrated infFigures v5 and 6, head 27 engaging the under surface of the board and the'lower end of leg 23 being' vpositioned rearwardlyof an imaginary line is preferably provided with` drawn perpendicularly through pin 25, the shoulders 26 abutting the top face of the adjacent portion of member 17, and the head 27 abutting a stop 28 carried by the board. If desired, the stop 28 may be the manufacturers name plate. Vith this construction the ironing board is rmly supported and the shoulders 26 and stop 28 provide a rigid brace for the member 24.

When it is desired to put the board away, member 17 is swung outwardly and then inwardly on its pivot, member 24 folding therein of yits own accord by reason of its end 23 being theheavier. rlhe board7 is then swung upwardly into the opening vv6 and readilyy releasably secured therein by a spring pressed ball or plunger 29 engaging a keeper 3()y carried by the boardside. It will also be apparent that in moving the board to open position, either the name plate 28 or a knob or handle 31 may be used to open the same againstthe spring pressed plunger 29, and as the Lboard approaches its normal horizontal position the leg structure is swung on the hinge 18. As the leg structure is swung toward operative position onhinge 18, it will,
