Application led ctober t is an object ot this invention to provide a head rest which can be supported troni "he wearers body and be qu'clily and easily placed iu position or removed.-
lt is a turther object ot the invention to provide such a device having a rest Yfor the head, l doing` means tor supporting,` said rest trom the 'ufearers shoulder and other means extending about tl e body ot the wearer for supporting said rest.
lt is still another object oit the invention to provide such a device connor-icing a padded plate torn'iing e head rest having;` en edjustalfilo sugportiug,l means pivoted at its outer or rear side, and an adjrstable iexible ineens secured adjacent its bottom and eX- tending about the body oi the Vwearer under the arm oppositie the seid shoulder.
ll i and other objects and advantages of the invention will be 'fully set forth inthe 'following escription made in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to the same ports throughout the different views, und in uhich,
Fig. l is a view ot the device partly in vertical section and partly in side elevation, the outline of the Wezirers head and body being; indicated to illust ate the position of the device;
Fig'. Q is a view ot the device in i'ront elevation;
Fig. 2l is a partial vertical section taken on the line ot Fig. 2, as indicated by the arrows; and
'Fig'. l a partial vertical section taken on the line hlf-ll; ot Fig. 2, as .indicated by the arrows.
'lieten-ing to the drawings, the device comprises :i 'flat n'ieniber or plate l liavinggn' pnrallel sides :ind illi'eetrated as having' :i rounded top. '.lhe nieinl'zer 'l is curved latersilly :it its bottoni, its shown at i2, which bottoni is provided with a concavity or recessed portion 3. The member l prete 'ably :is padded at one side with suitable mate rial l and covering` 5;, which padding eX- tends underneath or at the bottoni of inein.
ber l, at the portion 3. rl`he member l has substantially straight edges at the side ot portion 3 and is perforated or provided with slots in said edges which receive the supee, i923,
o ano i secured thereiprovided wlth the nsual 'l0 is secured to the i. in which which may be osition in said tube pora conci-ive lovver side, on which Y n resilient or other covering' li: to conzct the shoulder of the "odiarer. i chain or other flexible member lo secnred about the set screw 13 and to e heel; i6 secured to the rear ot member below the bearing l0.
ln operation?, the member 'l will be dis.- poscd, as shovvn in l with its padded side against the ivearois lie-:id and the rod l2 vvill be adjusted to give the desired angle to the member l, the member 1d; resting on the shoulder of the wearer. rlhe chain 15 can be adjusted by hooking different links thereo'r on the hooi; i6 so that a proper angle of the rod if?, and tube il can be secured. The straps 6 and Y are then passed under th iii-in otl the wearer opposite the shoulder supportinfg` the device and the strap tightened as desired, with the portion 3 oit member l resting` on the Wearers shoulder adjacent the neclii. "with the device so positioned the same will torni a very convenient and comfortable head rest so that the head of the person will be comfortably supported. lt is obvious that the device can readily be removed troni its operative position and conveniently collapsed and stored in small space. r he saine can, therefore, easily be carried in a traveling bag' or suitable receptacle.
ll rom the above description it is seen that applicant has provided a very simple and ei'iicient rest device and one that will have a high degree of utility tor invalids or travelers. The parts ot the device are few and simple and the same can be easily and inescpensively made. rlhe device has been actually tried out in practice and found to be very successtul and etlicient Ytor the purpose intended.
tltl
l llt) llO It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the Aform, details, arrangement and proportions of the parte Without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which, generally stated, consists in a device capable o1 carrying, ont the objects above stated, such as Shown and described and .eet forth in the appended claims.
