Application filed June 22, 1925- This invention relates to ice creepers, and more particularly to an ice creeper adapted to be detachably worn on the forward part of a shoe to permit the wearer to wall; over the ice or other slippery surface, without danger o'l falling.
One object of the invention is to provide an ice creeper ol' the above nature which will he adjustable to lit shoes 01'' various sizes.
A further object is to provide a device 01 the above nature which may be quickly and easily attached to and detached {rem a shoe.
A further object is to provide a device of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to mannl aeturc, easy to manipulate, and very ethcient and durable in use.
lVith these and. other objects in view, there has been illustrated on the accompany ing drawings one form in which the invention may be conveniently embodied in practice.
Fig. 1 represents a top plan vlew of an ice creeper embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side sectional view of the same, with parts broken away, showing the ice creeper in position ready to be clamped under a shoe sole.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional. view of the ice creeper taken along the line of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4; is a perspective view of the locl inestrip together with the clamping cam pivoted at one end thereof.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the body plate adapted to support the clamping members and locking strip.

Referring now to the drawings in which ilre reference numerals denote correspondng parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 indicates a shoe having a sole 11. adapted to be engaged by a pair ot clampingmembers 12 and 13. The clamping members have their ends bent upwardly and inwardly to form jaws 1 1 and 15 respectively for engagement with the sides of the sole 11.
The jaw 14 is provided with a slot 16 adapted to form a guide for a locking strip 17, said locking strip 17 having two sets of oppositely disposed teeth 18 and 19, near one end thereof. The other end of said Serial No. 38,708.

A series of ice engaging members or nails 28 are adapted to project from the bottom of the clamping; members 12 and 13, said members 28 being formed in the shape of inverted square pyramids and having bases titted within square beveled apertures 29 in the bottom. of said clamping members.
The ice-engaging members 28 have sharp points which will be forced into the surface oi' the ice or other slippery surface under the weight 01 the wearer.
In operation, when it is desired to a. semble the device, the series of pyramid shaped ice-engaging members 28 will be first inserted with their points downward into the apertures of the clamping members 12 and 1-3. The clamping members will then be clipped over the body member from the opposite ends thereof until they assume the positions shown in 1. The locking strip 17 will next be inserted through the slot 16, and the ice creeper will then be placed under the shoe upon which it is to be attached. After the locking strip 17 has been adjusted with relation to the clamping members 13 until the jaws lt and 15 have come into contact with the sole of the shoe, the operator will rotate the clamping member 19 about its axis by means of the handle 22 from the position shown in full lines of Fig. 1 to the dotted line position in said figure.
In practice, the body member will prefer said cam member having a handle ably be made of sheet metal haying sutliciei t flexibility to permit it to conform to the surtace upon which the wearer is Walking, hereby a firmer and surer footing on the ground will be obtained.
